Denim and cotton and viscose work most of the year here. - and technical and polyester.

I might occasionally wear merino in the summer. I don't own cashmere but wool is more winter. Linen in summer.

I think of suede as being a winter leather - and overall I think of soft textures being winter such as velvet or fur or cord or mohair.

I wear denim year-round. Also lightweight cotton or cotton-silk woven tops (it's just that in summer I wear them alone with sleeves rolled up, and in winter I wear them underneath a fluffy cardi).

I have a pair of indigo-blue suede sandals so I guess I'm happy to wear suede across seasons too.

I wear cashmere year-round, BUT in warmer seasons I prefer flat knits and in colder seasons textured (cable-knit etc.).

Velvet and corduroy are cooler season textures to my mind (actually, velvet seems specifically fall-winter, while I would wear corduroy in spring as well).

Denim is my only year-round fabric or texture, and even that gets questionable in summer. It is entirely too hot in Texas to be doing some velvet or leather or tweed or fleece in anything but the coldest weather.

Heavier textures? Only denim year round. I wear silk year round, linen and seersucker only in summer. Tweed and leather/ leatherette / faux fur in fall, early spring and winter. Quilted cotton in spring and fall. Chunky knits in winter.

Suede shoes I wear all year. My suede coat, however, is for spring. Tweed, boucle, wool, corduroy, velvet - these are generally fall/winter/spring for me. Summer is cotton.

I’m all for soooffffft, or nubby or weaving you can feel, any time of the year. For me, it’s about temperature appropriateness. I would have worn courduroy in Tampa extremely rarely; its return is well timed for me, because Germany has plenty of chilly fall and winter days on which to enjoy it.

Angie, “spring cashmere” would not have made sense to me before I got a Kinross sleeveless top from the Rack, because it was on clearance and I liked the look. What brands are good, and what else should one know about spring cashmere?

I will not wear linen in any other season but HIGH SUMMER.

We have COLD Springs so Spring cashmere makes perfect sense to me. I will also wear velvet in Spring, and denim year round.

Oh now see suede to me is a summer-only thing. Slush and salt do a number on suede if it's not the treated kind, and it just seems a bit too delicate to wear in a harsh weather.

I moved from San Francisco to Chicago and only recently felt like I needed to figure out this "seasonal" business. In SF, I had no issue wearing a grass green velvet blazer in July because it was ~50 degrees outside.... but, I remember people being shocked when Amal Clooney wore a crushed velvet dress in June and I didn't really understand why...

I guess this explains my overabundance of cardigans and suede footwear!!

Fascinating question. I am sensitive to seasonally-appropriate colors and fabrics. I cannot wear corduroy, velvet, ponte, or suede in the Spring or Summer. I know this for a fact.

Evidently I have not identified tweed or satin as "seasonal." I am wondering why. I don't own either. Perhaps I have not put it to the real life analysis.

No corduroy or flannel for me in the summer, and I don't wear voile or linen in the winter. Other than that I'm boringly trans-seasonal, but I'm not much for funky textures anyway. I tend to avoid suede year-round, but for reasons of practicality, not of seasonality.

Year-round would be: denim and chambray, french terry, flannel/brushed cotton, oxford cloth, jersey and rib knits. Most cotton fabrics, to be honest. I don't rely on any of these in extreme heat or extreme cold, but they do get wear in every single season. For me it's mostly a matter of making good use of baselayers once it gets chilly. Heat doesn't bother me much, but I run pretty cold. Except for heavy wool sweaters and long coats, most of my jackets and toppers are useful even in the summer. I have a couple cotton field jackets and a denim jacket that I don't wear in the winter because they just aren't insulating enough.

Recently I've been getting more mileage out of cashmere and wool early in the fall and late in the spring, because once the winter heating season is in full swing, my skin gets very dry and easily irritated so I tend to avoid animal fibers as baselayers during the coldest months (ironic and frustrating, I know).

I'm very open to the idea of thick, nubby linen for cooler weather (or linen blended with silk or wool), but it's tricky to find.

ETA: I don't have any velvet at the moment so can't speak to that, and only one pair of corduroy pants. Corduroy seems fine to me at any temperature when heavier denim is (and most of my denim is on the thick side).

No. I am (some would say) absurdly picky about this. It may change now that I live in a more temperate place. But in my former climate the idea of wearing linen in winter or cashmere and corduroy in summer would have been my definition of hell. The only fabric I regularly wore across seasons was denim but I barely wore it in summer and then only in jackets and shorts vs jeans. I guess I wear the odd cotton shirt as a winter under layer also. But there wasn’t much seasonal crossover in the past.

The resurgence of corduroy this fall has me thinking about this and other textures in my closet; velvet, tweed, satin, suede, etc. These haven't always been fall or winter items in my mind, but what about you? Do you wear your heavier textures in other seasons?
