Another solution would be not to cross your legs :0). I've had to break myself of the habit after the doctor explained that it was probably the cause of my blue veining near the knee. I wish I'd known that years ago! I cross at the ankles now.

My "firmer" flats (those that have a harder construction) dangle a lot. "Softer" flats, like my Me Too Ninis (a softer, stretchier leather than the Swanns) don't dangle very much, probably also because I bought them a little smaller anticipating that they would stretch a bit.

I have never heard that before Julie. How does he propose that small ankles contribute to fussy feet? Angie also has small ankles, but so does Tanya who has reasonably happy feet.

My ankles do "sink" which is just a symptom of my overpronation. This is no doubt the root cause of all my other foot issues. If I just had normal arched feet, my bones wouldn't need to spread so much to carry my weight and consequently I probably woudnt have bunions at only 25 years old.

Some dangle, some don't. It also depends on the resting position of my foot.

Going off in a completly different tangent, my mother in law has very fussy feet which her chiropodist attributes to her very slender ankles. I notice you also have slender ankles Maya, I wonder if it does contribute to fussy feet?

Maya, I am SO relieved to find a pair of 8-hour shoes that look fabulous when I do my walking distance that I don't care if they fall off when I cross my legs.

I always cross my legs, BUT! I sit on the edge of my chair because I'm hyper active and the toe of the crossed leg touches the ground which secures the shoe on the heel. Watch out for that when we next meet.

I haven't found a pair of loafers yet Cathy! I think they would definitely work better. I saw a pair of pink coach loafers on ebay that I love but they are too $$$ :(

The flats I just got are really nice. I'm impressed. the inside is soft and they are quite flexible...unfortunately so flexible that they grew a little just from walking in the house, but I'm happy so far. If my budget allowed it I would be all over the turquoise, red, fuschia, and purple (in half a size down)! I took a heel grip and actually trimmed it down and stuck it to the top of the shoe in the front, which keeps my foot from going forward as I walk and also cushions the toes a bit. I didn't have another heel grip so I used a thick moleskin in the other shoe and it seemed to do the trick. I'm not sure if it's a solution yet and won't know until they are in action on the street, but it seems serviceable for the moment. They stay on my foot better when my legs are crossed too, though just barely.

My heel is narrow, so most ballet flats and pumps don't work for me; I don't buy them if my heels pop out The two I own, the recent purchase Me Too Garner and a pair of Vivo Barefoot ones, fit very well in the heel area--no dangling.

That happens to me too. But the back of my foot is pretty skinny so shoes tend to be quite loose in that area. Because of that I prefer a shoe with a buckle over top.

I think that I would be concerned about the flatness, especially if you wanted to do a bit of walking in them. Even athletic shoes have a slighly built up heel.

I like the flats you linked too. To me they don't look more casual, the quilting takes it up a notch I think. I'd also be concerned about the "flatness" though, I don't mind the look, but I for one don't find that comfortable (but I even have trouble with regular flats, so don't listen to me).

Yay, hi Inge! You have been missed!

I really need to get a pair of elasticized flats if I can find a suitable pair. some of them are still too narrow in the toe area but I can have them stretched.

I'm curious about how versatile they are. Are they more casual than the non-elastic versions?'m especially fond of these and think they would probably be more suitable than the Swanns, but perhaps it is the total lack of a heel that makes them seem more casual. They are COMPLETELY flat, which I'm not so crazy about from either a comfort or an aesthetic point of view:

For me it also depends on the shoe Maya. I've had flats/wedges that do the dangling thing too, others stay on my foot regardless of having elastic in the sides or not. There, very helpful, isn't it;-)

It completely depends on the shoe for me. I can't wear the flats that dangle -- my foot slips out when I walk and it hurts to try and keep my foot in. I can only wear the flats with the elastic on the heel -- then my foot stays put and they're comfortable. If flats don't have elastic, my foot slips out like you describe, and I can't wear them.
