It's funny--after commenting on today's post about mid-calf boots, I was inspired to try my heeled and fitted brown suede mid-calf boots (usually reserved for longer flared jeans or trousers) a different way. I tried them on with some cropped straight dark-wash jeans (handed down from my tall daughter) and wow--I LOVED how they made me look taller and leaner. I topped them with a petite black watch plaid jacket and rhinestone brooch, and felt ladylike and rakish at once--my favorite look. Something about the snugly covered ankle & lower calf seemed to take the jeans to another level--and it's warm, too. I will be playing with this proportion until the snow comes, I think.

Hey Angie, haven't been here in a while -- I have to say, your hair is looking particularly great these days. :-)

I agree about everything you said. Cropped skinnies are the easiest. The cropped straights you're wearing in the above pictures look fab, but on me the heels would be a requirement. And I don't think there would be a way for me to wear cropped flares -- even in sky-high platforms -- without looking like a gnome. ;-)

Actually, even 5'10" models look quite short-legged in cropped flares.

We need a notification thing or something when we're mentioned in a post I would buy those jeans in a heartbeat, but at $310 Cdn before taxes, duties and shipping ......I don't think so I'll hold out for something less spendy.

This was really helpful because I have been on the fence about the flatter-ability of the cropped straights and flares. Your post today really helped to see it in action, and this description really makes it all come together!

Holding my breath for some visuals on the cropped skinnies. I've been wearing mine just skimming the top of heeled and flat high-shaft booties, both low and high contrast, and tend to prefer them with untucked tops and sweaters. I'm curious what kind of TOPS you are pairing yours with.

Thanks Angie! This is very interesting. I am now 2 out of 3 jeans twins on you (of course the two more difficult pairs) and am looking forward to playing around now that the weather is in the cool 80s ;-). Cropped jeans are very appealing - I love the idea of showing off shoes and keeping my hems dry if it ever rains.

Thanks for clarifying, Angie! I didn't realize that today's outfit was with cropped straights! If I ever tried this look it would have to be with the skinnies...even rolling my longer skinnies bugs me if they aren't tight at the ankle...not sure why that is...hmmm...probably the wider the leg opening the more flashbacks!

Angie, I have successfully cropped three pants so far, and purchased another pair with released hem from Mother. Similar to your C/E from NAS (they were sold out by the time I was ready to buy). If it weren't for you I'd not have tried this new silhouette yet. It's working really well for my lifestyle and climate. Thank you for explaining how to keep it modern. I too find that the lower contrast works better for me as someone on the short side. The cropped pant also works great with sandals with a high shaft. I know you're long past open footwear but where I live they can be worn as late as October and as early as March. I think others from California, Florida and parts of Texas can relate.

It was fine for summer, but I'm not even looking at them now. I do like the cropped straights for something new. Cropped skinnies are the backbone of my jeans wardrobe. If anyone ever sees some dark wash cropped straights with the undone hem look -dial me in!

I have cropped skinnies, straights and flares. The easiest to style are hands down the cropped skinnies. Next easiest are the cropped straights, which were in today's outfit post. And the hardest to style are the cropped flares.

I will wear just about anything with the high waisted cropped skinnies. High contrast, flats, untucked tops - you name it. And the proportions look fine to me.

I don't feel quite as streamlined in the cropped straights but opting for outfits that are JFE works well to my eye - and that you can see in the pics below. Lots of horizontal lines and high contrast does not bother me with the cropped straights as long as I close the gap with the right footwear.

Cropped flares on the other hand - I will only wear with a column of colour - and I mean head to toe the same colour - because I feel shorter in the leg and chunkier in the thigh when I don't. Granted, I do not wear high heels so I need to create vertical integrity in other ways.

I meant to mention this in today's post, and Lisap reminded me. (Thanks for the gushing comment too, Lisa).
