It's interesting how clothing, while it seems quite unimportant in times of crisis, can help us feel ready and confident for these moment.

I'm sure your DF's energy was buoyed by your presence! What a blessing to have this unexpected time together.

And I know exactly how you feel about YLF!
What a beautiful and thoughtful post Adelfa. I'm so glad your Dad is doing better and how wonderful that you were there for him. Those are the moments in life that really count. Glad to hear that the stress of packing for this situation was eased by the knowledge you've gained through YLF. This place really is quite remarkable, isn't it?

I hope your Dad continues to do well.

So glad that your dad is feeling better.

Luv the domino effect of how your command of your wardrobe and style allowed you pack quickly and be there for your father and make a new connection with your niece.

I agree with your sentiments of the awesomeness of YLF and the forum members. Thank you so much for sharing your recent events. Feeling nice warm fuzzies right now. : )

Adelfa, that was lovely! I'm very glad that your dad is doing so much better.

I know exactly what you mean about the wardrobe. It is an amazing relief to know that you have everything taken care of on the clothes front. the right clothes for a situation seem so trivial, but they are a huge part of what makes us feel comfortable and "ourselves." Yeah for a working wardrobe!

BTW, had no idea you were a former Spokanite too. So much fun to bump into people on the forum. (I was born and grew up there.) Wave hello to the stubbly wheat fields and gorgeous Ponderosa pines for me. :)

Every time when I read someone's expression of happiness and gratitude that YLF exists, I feel overpowering mix of the same emotions and yet again feel so privileged to have found this place and so many wonderful, eloquent, wise and beautiful women who feel free to be here what they are and give themselves to this community unreservedly.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and the very special breakfast with us.
So two doctors indicated in the middle of last week that my 80-year-old dad was close to death. So I took an unplanned trip to Spokane, spending a 4-day weekend there. Let me say immediately that Dad suddenly got a lot better the day I got there, and we had a great time going out to eat, taking scenic drives, and talking about important things. He even cooked me breakfast (pictured).

But as I'm sure many of you have found over and over, it's such a comfort to have enough command of one's wardrobe to be able to pack in a hurry for a few days in another climate. In a carry-on! I even dreamed up an appropriate outfit in which to go to my brother's quite sartorially conservative church. While retaining enough style that my 16-year-old niece said, "I have a hip aunt." (For a moment I thought she was talking about my sister.) "I think you're hipper than I am," she continued.

Every day of my trip I put on my clothes and I knew they were appropriate and attractive. I hadn't forgotten anything. I was warm enough (it snowed!). I felt confident that my dad, who always likes me to look nice, would enjoy how I looked. (Funny, for years I rebelled against this and tried to be what I thought of as "natural.")

I wasn't on the forum at all, but I thought of you all every day. I felt your support and I felt so happy at how we help each other respond constructively to the societal mandates every woman experiences. I'm home and Dad's okay for now. Thanks to Angie and to each one of you who read my posts and whose posts I read and who make up this community.
