Can't help you with transportation but we stayed at the Hotel Amphora in Chania and loved it -- it's right on the water. In Heraklion we stayed at the Olive Green Hotel, which was more modern but also quite nice. I'd say if you are looking for a beachy experience, do Chania; if you like history and museums, do Heraklion. We are flying into Heraklion, but haven’t decided yet if we will stay there or go to Chania. We are mostly going to be beach bums, looking for waves and absence of wave runners or other annoying noisy things. We will go to either a museum or some ruins, and otherwise relax and enjoy good food. </p> <p>I’ve had this in the back of my mind for a while, but didn’t know if we’d be able to do it, so I don’t have anything sketched out at all. </p> <p>Any suggestions on which of those towns to stay in, specific properties, or how to travel between the towns? Taxis are apparently $200. I’ve seen busses mentioned, but don’t have info on them yet. </p> <p>Any suggestions much appreciated. </p>
