What a great idea, Vivian! You have a nice collection - not too big, not too small but just right. I k=like the Loft wide legs for you in theory but need to see them on: I am afraid they may be too wide for your slim frame.
I am with Lisa on ripped denim - but never been a fan.

I have been using Finds and Collections to create ensembles, capsules - you name it. It is a brilliant tool!
I was inspired by you to go and create my own denim essensials and statement collections... pitiful. Maybe I am due to a refresh...:-)

I think this well-thought-out approach is going to pay dividends. Good on you for sorting out your essentials and statements, and making small changes that make sense.

I look forward to seeing the new jeans.

I like the idea of wide, white sailor-ish jeans. But white wide looks wider than any other color wide. So, in YLF parlance, if your eye doesn't adjust, you might go for white crop flares that are narrower in the thigh area.

I did a denim purge earlier this afternoon and got rid of about 8 pairs of skinnies. Off to consignment. Fortunately, I live in a college town and college girls still seem to be all about skinny jeans.

I wear jeans almost daily in cooler weather, and I like to refresh frequently. As a result, I had many pairs that were older and not getting the wear.

I didn't get rid of all my skinny jeans, just pared back to the ones I really wear frequently.

I made a collection of my jeans here. <https://youlookfab.com/finds/c.....ction=4015> It's a lot, I admit, and is still missing a couple of older no-finds-possible ones.

viva - love this idea and I have been using the Collections feature so I shared one today.

Your denim capsule is enviable. I don't have the lifestyle for statement denim and the past year was so warm I didn't have a need for much more than a basic dark denim pair I ended up getting from Gap.

This is a terrific idea. Ever since the essentials/statements exercise I've been eyeing my wardrobe in a different way. Most of my stuff still isn't in Finds, but this would be an extremely useful exercise to help sort things out. Thank you for sharing!

That is a really good idea. Your collections look perfect for you and like they cover all your bases nicely. Perhaps I should try this too to get a little clarity on what I need or don't.

Although it's funny, what qualifies for "essential" denim for lots of you is "statement" for me. Try as I might, cropped jeans just don't feel like a "throw on everyday with any old thing" item.

As for the two new pair - I like them both for you. I am not , however, convinced of the need for distressed denim anymore - especially at the knee. A frayed hem is one thing, but the ripped out knee and thigh......might be my own desire for a more grown-up look now. I did see something interesting in the new issue of Porter last night: an editorial page titled " the return of the going-out top" - or something like that. It featured a pair of distressed skinnies, embellished heels, and a 'fancy' top . That look - they say - is back/or still going strong.

We were chatting about this earlier, and as you know, I think this is a great idea. I have no idea how to create collections in finds, but it seems like a great way to catalogue one's wardrobe - or parts of it, anyways. I am going to go through the exact exercise as you - maybe this weekend, and I hope to get rid of at least half of my jeans. I have a massive collection of just so-so Gap jeans bought to camouflage and accomodate wild weight swings. Why do I think I only deserve cheap pieces bought on the fly ? Thank you for this inspiration !

Yesterday I reviewed and edited my denim, and I found it really helpful to use Finds as a tool to help me.

I created two collections: my essential denim and my statement denim. I tracked down Finds for all the denim that I currently have, if I hadn't already collected it.

Going through the process of not only reviewing my jeans but looking at them as essential vs statement helped me think about them differently. Not only am I wearing these? But, how am I wearing these? It put a bright light on the essentials and gave the statement pairs a bit of a break: if I'm not wearing the leatherette pairs so much, it's okay. But several pairs are off to the GoodWill today, because they are just no longer working for me: my Gap Boyfriend jeans I have had forever, because they are really just TOO BIG; a pair of JCrew Factory skinnies that are too sausagey; a thrifted pair of Lucky jeans that I wear when I feel like crap (but frankly, they look like crap, too); and a pair of JBrand flares that are too short.

It feels really good to have fewer, better denim.

In each collection, I have added one new pair that I am considering. In essentials, it's the Current Elliot white pair (which I tried once but want to re-try -- I'm not sure these are the white jeans for me, and I'm still trying to decide about distressing). In statements, it's the Loft wide leg pair.

Anyway, just wanted to share. Would love any thoughts on the white and the Loft crops, and on anything else, as always.
