I love blue and green together, nature cannot be wrong in this case.

I think in many ways my childhood tastes were pretty good...the 1980s ones were okay and lots of fun, but I made some dubious choices of my own accord in the 1990s. That was my WORST fashion era. While I happily revisit 70s and 80s looks, I still struggle with plaid, clunky black shoes and chambray. But I am off topic now.

I remember something I read in a magazine at an impressionable age, along the lines of to always look at yourself in the mirror before you left, and take an accessory or piece of jewelry off. There must have been some rational idea there about not overloading yourself with jewelry or clashing accessories, but the way it was phrased was strange.

Also, there's the 'rule' that you should only wear three pieces of jewelry, and your wedding ring, glasses and watch all count if you wear them. Nothing more.

Kiwigal, I was never allowed to wear pants to church, and certainly not jeans; there was a special weather-related exemption that if it got below 0 degrees - Fahrenheit, not Celsius - I could wear wool trousers. I used to wish for the winter days to get just a bit colder, because even with tights and a long coat, wearing a skirt when it was below freezing was not pleasant.

ETA: oh the pierced ears thing. Most of my friends had pierced ears by 10 or 12; I had to talk and talk my parents into letting me get them in high school, since in the small town my parents had grown up in, only 'loose women' had pierced ears. Then they made me go to the doctor's (!) to have them done, which was fraught because the nurse used the same darn pneumatic gun kit thing they have at Claire's, and with much less experience wielding it.

I grew up during the era of visible thong underwear sticking out of your low-rise pants. Most of the fashion advice I remember is absolutely worthless because the idea (at least for teens) was to look as "hoochie" as possible. PPL was kinda from that time though-- bootcuts/flares and heels were the rage.

What crazy fashion advice still echoes in your head from your youth? I distinctly remember one from my mom's Cosmo magazines (read illicitly, of course). When introducing a new-to-you style or element (the example was a knee high boot novice), you might worry how often to wear the new item and as a result, not wear it very often. To solve this problem the author suggested buying two in different colors and alternating. There may be some merit in that advice, but it's also resulted in some duplicates that languished unworn. Why do I remember that from over 30 years ago? Do I even still believe it?

What useless fashion rules, suggestions and advice need purging from your synapses today?

(It's taking awhile to discard the "don't wear brown shoes with black pants" rule.)
