Thanks, Emily. They sound good, and waterproof is certainly a bonus. My waterproof Blondos have definitely seen a lot of wear this winter!

Emily, I admired those boots online, and saw they're not available in my size. I'm glad to hear you like them. Are they heavy, or relatively light? I think a lot of times Cole Haan shoes are nice and light, though they look substantial.

I bought these (finds) this year and I like them. Currently sold out, but maybe another style to keep on your radar if you shop in the Fall. I chose them especially because I like the ring detail at the back. That said, the Fluevogs look pretty great.

Thank you, Mary. Glad to hear your opinion on these! I saw a pair of Seychelles Chelsea boots in my searches, too. I've tried on Seychelles before and thought the felt really good; I've never owned a pair.

Angie, I'm wondering about the Paul Greens that you have in taupe ("Jay" wingtip). I can get them in black from a European site that will ship to the US. I've been so consistent with Paul Green sizing, I wouldn't be too worried about ordering them from abroad. Are they too distinct? Maybe I need a plainer style to go with "everything."

Such good thoughts here--thank you all!
Jenni NZ, stylewise, I agree that the Topshop booties are really attractive. I haven't worn Topshop before, and I'm always torn between going for a new-to-me brand at a bargain or going for the tried and true. Of course returns to Nordstrom are easy enough. The Maddens are a style I really love, but I need a lower heel for a lot of walking, and the Fluevogs, surprisingly, have that kind of heel that feels to me like no heel.

Anchie, Brooklyn, Ummlila, and Angie, I appreciate your comments on the higher shaft. I'm wondering if that may be part of the reason I'm wanting to replace the Munros. I bought the Steve Maddens specifically for the higher shaft and the heel; maybe a lower-heeled high shaft is my next move.

Karie, Kkards, and RobinF, good thoughts on the wait-versus-buy now question! Kkards and Robin, I think it really does only make sense to buy now if I get a really good deal AND if it's something I know I'm going to love next fall.

StyleFan, I think my feet are a bit fussy. They may be Princess Feet; they seem happiest in my more expensive shoes! But then, I typically don't spend a lot on shoes unless they are very comfy. The Fluevogs would be in that category. If they are the right fit for me, I know they would be the kind of shoes I could walk for miles in. Your thought on the lower shaft is intriguing. I like the sliver of skin look, too, but I've been mostly closing the gap through colder months, so I think I might be okay with a higher shaft this time.

Viva, yes, the Fluevogs are gorgeous, and so NOT on sale right now.
Momo, Fluevog does make a lower-heeled Chelsea boot that is just as stunning (Find below). It wasn't nearly as comfy to me, though, surprisingly. It was a narrower fit through the toe box, and didn't have the same comfort in the arch as the one with the heel. The do have the Mariana (flat version) on sale in a dark burgundy, which I saw in the store but not online. Black is not on sale, though.

Joy, you've posed an ingenious solution. I wouldn't have thought of holding on to shoes till July--and didn't know about Zappos year-long return policy. I don't know that I would do that, but it's worth a thought. I did consider trying the Cole Haans anyway, just to see if they're at all what I'm looking for. You're right that if I went with the Fluevogs, even if I do so later, it's the kind of purchase that I would make and not look back!

JAileen, I know, the store is dangerous, isn't it? I am most tempted by Fluevog's more classic styles.

I appreciate all the great wisdom, everyone! Thank you! I might order the Topshop and/or Cole Haan pairs just to see how they fit and feel in person, but I think I should try to refrain from buying now, since I probably won't get much wear out of them till next fall.

If I were you I'd order the Cole Haans from Zappos now and hold on to them until NAS. Don't they have a year return policy? As far as shaft, it looks like you have higher shaft booties in black, although I feel that the higher shaft is a bit more modern and works well with crops. The ones that you are looking at look like a good height to be versatile.
If you love the Fluevogs, you should get them and not look back. You will wear them enough to get the CPW down.

Another vote for the Fluevogs! I have had black booties s on my list for a while. I find it so hard to find a pair that doesn't look a bit frumpy to my eye.
I am thinking a style like the Fluevogs but I need a lower heel.

My eyes immediately went to the Fleuvogs. Man, those are gorgeous boots. Are they discounted at all for end of season? If they were I would buy them. So classic and so modern. Just beautiful. I can see the value of waiting but those are amazing.

I tend to buy on sale and love a really good end-of-season sale but only if I am sure I will still love it the next year. Plus it is more fun to be able to wear my new purchase right away and if it's way out of season I can't do that.

As far as your pics I do love the looks of those Fluevogs but agree it depends on where you want them to hit with your pants. Around here I like the higher shaft to keep me warmer but I do have some lower booties that I wear with full length pants. And it looks like you have the higher shaft covered with the Maddens.

this is a question i ask myself all the time....i generally only buy at the end of the season if the discount is really really good, like 50% off what it would cost at the beginning of the season...otherwise i figure i'm not really losing anything by waiting, and if the end of season is here and the retailer still owns them, and they are not discounted now, they will probably still be available in a couple of months.

Those John Fluevog are pretty gorgeous. Are your feet fussy? I have heard so many good things about J F footwear from people who suffer from problem feet.
The Topshop ones look closest to the Munroes from here.
I am personally leaning towards lower shaft booties so that the skin of the ankle shows when wearing cropped booties.
How much wear do you think you would get before the NAS from the booties? I see 3 or 4 pairs in your wardrobe (all in heavy rotation). Would it be worth waiting?

It's a tough decision to wait until the new season starts or to buy now...I'd be inclined to wait in case a new style catches your eye. I've made the mistake of purchasing at the end of the season only to not wear the shoes/boots when the new season started.

This whole business about essentials is so interesting! That's quite a collection of black booties you have there. To me the expensive Fluevog ones look so similar to the Steve Maddens you already have. I amazed myself by going for the cheapest ones in style, the Topshop ones, but that's because they look the most dainty to me, ergo dressy I feel.

On Angie's post about wardrobe essentials, I mentioned that I have a hard time pinning down what my essentials are. Angie suggested black booties and trench coats are probably among them, and I do think she is right. It made me think of one of my pairs of black booties that I have been wanting to replace: the Munro Lexis, which I have had for a couple of years and worn quite a lot. They are no longer as comfy or quite as nice looking as they once were. I don't want to buy the same boot again. I feel I'd like to have a Chelsea style--something I've had in mind for a while. I think I'd also like for them to be more toward the dressy end of Chelsea style, as opposed to rustic or rugged.
These boots have been on my mind lately, and I'm wondering whether it's a good idea to get them now, or wait till Nordstrom Anniversary sale and fall season?
The first four finds are my current black booties. The first pair are the Munros I would like to replace.
The other Finds are possibilities I've identified. The Cole Haans are both appealing and on sale; I haven't seen them in person. I've tried on the Fluevog Cairo 2.0, and they feel pretty wonderful and are gorgeous. They are very expensive for me, though, and I think they will still be around next fall.
What do you think? Should I shop for these now or hold off and shop for them in season? Do you have any thoughts on taller versus lower shaft styles?
