BR has a great knit cami with 2" of lace at the top. The fabric would cover about an inch above my bra, but then the lace (which is not very see-through, don't worry) comes up another 2" to a sweetheart neckline. It's a nice detail to layer with! I am nearly 6' and it comes to an inch below mid-rise pants, and I've even washed and dried it. The length is great for layering.

For length: The camis at Nordstrom's BP department are long (too long for my taste, but I'm just 5'3''). Color selection varies, prices are good (around $18, I think).

I know I sound like an advertisement for Soma but I'm 5'10" and these camis hit me at my hip. I use them for layering and they will peek out under my top layer at my hips (sometimes they move so I have to keep adjusting if I really want this look).

The funny thing is, I have two Express camis and I love them. I leave the shelf bra for a bit extra support and bulk. heh But I haven't found ones I like in a while there.

The other sites are great - thanks. Any ideas for camis that are longer that can be layered? Man, I'm picky.

I hear you! Modest camis can be hard. I ended up just getting a bunch of nice regular cut ones without shelf bras and hike the straps up as far as they go...the only thing is that then they bunch a bit under the armholes which is annoying. It looks like Inge provided some good suggestions. :)

Tanya, that's a great idea about cutting out the shelf bra...I never even thought of that...

Ana, I cut it out very close to the seam so there was only maybe 5 mm of fabric left, so it wasn't lumpy at all. It is much comfier then with the shelf bra ( that elastic drove me crazy!). So far I've washed some of them 2-3 times, and they've hold up well, but I do worry that the cut off seams might unravel a bit.

Tanya, is it lumpy or are the seams uncomfortable when you cut out the shelf bra? I hate those things, they squish my chest together in a really uncomfortable way and make me feel huge on top.

My go to place for inexpensive camis is Express, they are usually 2 for $29.50.
They do have that annoying shelf bra but I just cut it out. The straps are adjustable so one can regulate the coverage in the front.

Hi...I've been lurking and really enjoying all the conversations and ideas here too. I've recently purchased some of these camis and I really like how they fit and cover:
http://www.soma.com/store/brow.....38;inSeam=
I think these cover pretty well (on me they come up a little higher than on the model in the picture) and they allow over layers to drape well.

Hi Julia

I think you may have more luck with tank tops (racerback tanks in particular) and shells, than with cami's (those tend to have a lower neckline). Would any of these work for you?

Hi all - I've loved this blog forever, and am finally getting around to asking a question. I'm Julia, and I live in Seattle, and enjoy all the seasons, and the layering wearing that comes with fighting the rain! :)
I'm trying to find an awesome covering cami. Cami/tank top/shell - not picky. Personally, I dress more modestly, so I'm looking for one that is higher in the front. A big strip of lace helps, but I don't always want to have lace peeking out. I guess I'm looking for one that comes up to a couple inches below my collarbone.
Any ideas? I'd love to find white, black, and a reddish tone. Thanks for all the help!
