This dress needs some triage. I'm not going to be able to move the belt loops, but I can try removing them to see if it resolves the bunching issue. If not, it's going to have to go. I can see that it's kind of awkward. I hope it can be saved, I like it and the kids find it amusing that mommy is wearing a soldier dress. I probably should have known that it wasn't right, it is a regular size 2. I need clothes to be petite to fit properly, not just in skirt length, but in the torso also.

I don't think I could do #1 without a belt. It is too much surrender for me. I need clothes to have some indication or illusion of a waist, otherwise I look like I am wearing maternity clothes. I'll try it with a wider belt, maybe a different look with a pencil skirt and heels next time?

I am going to go against the grain and say that I love #1 with the belt you chose! But I don't know a lot about fashion, hence the reason I here at YLF trying to learn. So I don't know if you should listen to me! The shirt looks great on you! I tried it on and just didn't think it looked good on me.

And I will agree with others and say that the dress doesn't do it for me. It doesn't seem to fit you quite right. You have a much better bod than it is allowing you to show!

I like #1, sans belt as others mentioned. For #2 I don't mind the layered version and self belt in #3.

I like #1 a lot! I have the same chambray top but I rather like the looseness 0:) I think perhaps a wider belt would work better; could also try a cognac belt+cognac boots (fun pairing with black), or no belt with a full/semi-tuck for the front. For the dress in #2, I do like the color but I think Janet is onto something with the idea of the torso being too long for you; it seems to be bunching around the collar. I like the jacket with it, maybe push the sleeves up for some extra sass

Do you think it could be as easy as moving the belt loops? I think Janet is right, in that it's too long in the upper torso, but if you have enough room through the waist maybe moving the belt will fix it all. Mine is just snug all over - I didn't realize H&M sizes are a lot smaller than usual size 4's, oops!

I love the first look - I tried that shirt also and it didn't work for me, but it's great on you!

The dress looks too collar-y and bunchy up top somehow. If I wore it I'd be tugging it down there. It looks very cute in the last photo with the jacket but something isn't quite right with how it sits. Could you unbutton and wear a cami underneath?

#1 looks great!

The shirtdress looks like it's long in the body on you -- the top appears to be bunching up, like there's too much fabric above the waistline. I have this problem in many items, as I'm short-waisted. In some items, especially sleeveless one, it's an easy alteration, but I suspect it would not be simple for this particular dress.

Great suggestions! Mo, I am kind of afraid of this dress. It is woven and I always feel like I am going wrinkle or stain it.

I think the 'less is more' is good with details on the clothing items themselves. The shirtdress seems like it just needs to be yanked down an inch or two! Is it comfortable? I have a similar one I have, as yet, never worn.

I think the Target shirt is a great color for you! I agree with rae that the belt seems a little off -- there's more shirt below the belt than above, so I'd either wear the belt lower or leave it off and wear some beads or a pendant or something. I like it with the skinnies, though!

I'm wondering whether it's the collar that's a little problematic with the dress? It seems a little bunchy-uppy in photo 2, but in 3 and 4, where that area is more covered, it looks better.

I would personally lose the belt in #1, but I do love the shirt with your skinnies. I think your legs carry off that silhouette really well, and the shirt is a good length for your proportions. Maybe a more rugged looking belt (cognac?) to continue the equestrian-meets-western vibe?

I can't quite put my finger on what I don't love about the dress... does the fabric lay correctly on your bust? I don't know if I'm seeing a shadow or an odd ripple in the fabric. First impression is that it isn't up to your usual standard... :T

I noticed I'm going for "less is more" this week with no jewelry, scarves or other accessories. Hmm... wonder if that's a new style direction for me or just a little bit of laziness and lack of time in the morning?

Here are a couple of recent WIW's.

1) I think MaryK and a few others have this Target Chambray shirt. I love it but it could definitely benefit from some tailoring. It is quite wide at the waist. I'm trying it with skinny's here per YLF suggestions. Last time I styled it with wide legs and it was deemed too voluminous.

2-4) Gap military dress from a couple of years ago. I tried it with some other belts but my kids were insistent on the matching self belt. I probably wouldn't buy this style now because I realized that the sleeves are not the most flattering for me. The armholes are cut narrow so I can't roll them up any further. I tried to camouflage the awkward sleeves with a short jacket. Does it look ok?

Any honest crits, feedback and suggested improvements would be greatly appreciated!
