The others have some great ideas about what to wear under it. You also asked about toppers to wear over it, and I am seeing it with any white or cream blazer/jacket/denim jacket for sure. It would look great also under a very thin drawstring-waist anorak style. A tan or khaki blazer shaped jacket might be nice. A shrunken bolero style or cropped shrug might work too, to expose the peplum.

I like this so much I'm thinking about buying one myself! It's so nice!

This is a terrific piece! I see what drew you to it, and think it will be a great way to spice up some familiar pieces. I think tissue weight knits might work under this vest -- and a turtleneck in the same shade might also work.

I love the Directice!
Joy, I haf exactly that thought. Wish I colud have made a 2- piece dress ( or 3 pieces of suiting to mix & match) of it. Instead, I have some skirts with tweedy fabric so navy can blend.

Hi Unfrumped --

This seems like a great piece to add to your closet and it seems to be calling to you quite loudly.

From most to least casual, I think you could pair it with a thin t-shirt --> thin sweater --> silk(y) shirt when worn zipped.

For wearing as a vest you'd just have to experiment -- not really sure what type of neckline would work best as an underlayer without seeing it on you.

If there are matching pants available, I would buy them because navies can be very difficult to match. I might wear the top open as a vest over a striped shirt or tee or even a tank in warm weather. Try it with jeans. Maybe wear black under it . Over it, a brown or black leather jacket or white.

Very cute top!

Have you checked out The Directrice for layering ideas? She does a lot of layering in a creative but business appropriate way.

Also I've noticed that MaxAzria does a lot of peplum and peplum-esque tops. Most sleeveless, but I found a couple with short sleeves to explore, in tailored styles and workwear-type fabrics.

I am not supposed to add sleeveless items except for intentional layering pieces, but I could not resist this kind of moto-peplum top from WHBM. I went to 2 stores to find it in the right size.
One, I love "subdued peplum" styles, not very flouncy, and 2, love princess seam structure, and the neckline is high but has interest (it's not a simple jewel neck, but has a little dip due to moto). Navy is JFE and goes with skirts.

Problem is, it is best worn as a sleeveless item. I will wear a coat over it when at work, and I won't implode if I have to "bare arms", but I probably won't be trying to "sport" the sleeveless aspect .

So it's the kind of thing that would have been better for with a short or 3/4 sleeve to wear as a kind of jacket-top on its own, yet I am so drawn to its being a more refined top that I got it anyway. It is my dream type item that is not just a plain knit, but I admit it's sort of on the periphery of my imaginary daily style. Tags are still on in case I come to my senses. Also, the Catch-22 is that when an item like this has the sleeves, then the fit has to be spot-on in multiple areas.

However I'd be interested in ideas for adding a sleeve to create some different looks--possibly a tissue-weight knit narrow-sleeved striped T with neckline that doesn't show, or thin knit turtleneck, using it as a vest. Or, can anyone envision what style of topper would work as JFE and not fight too much with it, if only for part of daily wear, such as at a business meeting.

I think it would look great on some of the fabbers out there who rock more sleeveless items and are ink/navy fans.
