AND turns out the heel is HOLLOW, so can't be nailed back. Turns out it was glued like paper. The cobbler glued them back with some nutty technique involving sealing them on the outside as well as cement glue. </p> <p>So they are in fact flimsy, or else not made to be worn in anything other than dry weather.
