Zappos is a good place to shop for outdoor, casual wear too. My favorite brands are Prana, Patagonia, Toad & Co. I like Chaco and Teva sandals. You can wear these out hiking, to the beach and then to dinner in Costa Rica.
I'd pack sundresses, shorts/skorts, tees and/or button ups with at least one pair of lightweight pants.

I lived in the Keen-type sandals when I went to Costa Rica. Perfect for beaches, jungle hiking crossing stream beds and the like. I was there in November and found the weather comfortable near the sea coast, but hot and humid inland. Loose, breathable clothes were the best. Have a wonderful trip!

Well, was going to pass on this, but the post brought the Lands End Best of SWIM 2015, and it has it all for a beach vacation. From water shoes and sandals to totes to dresses and rash guard cover ups. Decent quality, but not so expensive you couldn't tear something up having a good time, and not care. Have a great time.

Several years back I went on an active vacation to Belize (jungle, not coast line). I got these Keen sandals beforehand and they were absolutely perfect for the type of activities I did (hiking, water activities, etc). I highly recommend them. Not the prettiest or fashionable but 1000% functional. I would recommend quick dry fabrics as well for clothing (tops, bottoms).

Here are a few ideas: take a look at the Costa Rica boards on Pinterest....some include packing capsules. The usual suspects are worth a look too for gear and crossover, casual wear: REI, Athleta, Title Nine, etc.
What a fun anniversary trip! Hope you have a graet time.

Sounds great! That's a pretty active schedule, and I only have a couple of points to make. You don't want string bikinis for surfing, even if you wear them normally. They don't stay in place with the waves and you'll get board rash too. I have loved my Birkenstocks for walking this summer, but you may prefer boots if it's not too hot.

I get a lot of packing advice from The Vivienne Files, but she doesn't specialise in active holidays.

Hello, My husband and I are planning a trip to Costa Rica in May for our 10 year anniversary and my 40th bday. We are staying on the North West pacific coast at a hotel on the beach. Not too rustic but small, charming and romantic I hope! We are a 10 min walk on a beach to a small surf town that is pretty touristy so will be able to go out to dinner. We are planning some activities like surfing, ziplining, light hiking and maybe river rafting and kayaking. What would you suggest to pack? I'm usually more dressy but I don't want to have unhappy feet. I don't really know my way around gear but probably need some. I want to look cute too since it's our Anniv. Weather will be dry and in the 80s, occasional rain. Could you possibly make some recommendations? In addition to gear this seems a good time to embrace boho trend. Any advice you have on merging gear and casual style, what to take, would be so much appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Fathenry
