Yeah. Sizing runs the gamut! It's unfortunate, and especially when silhouettes are very fluid and architectural, making it harder to judge what the right size is.

I'm slight, and need items to run narrow on the shoulders. I'm fine with volume elsewhere if there is enough structure in the right places. Over the years I've done really well with my COS items. Greg has too! Their menswear is yummy.

Here are my COS items, and the quality is fab. Mostly knitwear:

Cos does cut for straighter bodies, which typically works for me. Where I run into problems is having broad shoulders and a small bust.

I remember one item in particular, a sleeveless wool sweater with a gorgeous draped neckline. I ordered my usual M; too big. Ordered a
S, still ludicrously large. No XS. I don't know who that sweater would have fit. Nonetheless, determined to keep it, I treated it as an expensive piece of fabric and took it to my tailor, who created a thing of beauty out of that sweater, with a neckline that stands up and frames the face like a flower (plus necessary tweaks to adjust fit). Amazing.

No experience with their tops but I have two (second hand) woven dresses from COS - both in Medium. I have a fairly straight figure and am usually a size 6 dress (Medium or Large at Banana Republic).

I have to size up in woven items as I find COS cuts are narrow in the chest. I’m glad I have access to 2 stores in Toronto. I don’t dare order anything online, also they charge us duties and returns would be problematic.

Yes, COS sizing is wacky! Sometimes things are enormous in my regular size, sometimes they are enormous in most aspects, but too narrow in others (especially the bust), as Greyscale mentions. I fell in love with this tailored shirtdress they offered, but my regular size for dresses (12) was enormous everywhere, but too tight in the bust, more like a size 6 or 8. Peculiar! But they have great clothes, so I continue to order from them occasionally.

Agree with all, especially the comments about the straighter cut. I struggle with my sizing there and usually have to size up, and my chest is usually the limiting factor even on oversized pieces. It’s odd. I stopped into a COS store when I was in Boston last month to try to get some data on my size by trying a handful of things on. (No stores near me.) As it happens, I just ordered a vest and pants, my first online COS order in years. Will report back. I considered ordering several sizes to try but it was expensive… though probably smarter in the long run. Just intimidating to see it all add up.

If I did have a store near me it might become one of my go-to brands because the style is perfect for me. But I own almost nothing from COS so far.

Agreed with all of the above! I’ve only been to COS once, but tried on a few things and fit is all over the place. I can find a piece too roomy and too small at the same time — just depends on the cut. Maybe they cut for straighter bodies than mine.

I have found the sizing big - Debbie, I would recommend that you go for 1 size smaller than you would usually wear. I am generally an S - but in Cos fluid fitting items I would try the XS first.

Just agreeing with the above. The oversize can be way oversized but with narrowness in one part that makes it a difficult fit. Generally though, most of my COS items (mostly second hand) are a size down from my usual.

I like that top! COS actually encourages customers to order more than one size and return as needed. I’ve only recently started ordering from them and returns were easy and processed promptly.

I ordered an oversized shirtdress that was enormous, but a relaxed fit tee fit perfectly in my normal size. So, yes, sizing all over the place! (But I will keep ordering from them because I really like their stuff.)

I have no experience with COS but the tee looks oversized by design. I’d try my regular size in most tops and one size down. It would be important to get the fit you want in the shoulders. The sides could easily be taken in if needed.

What Irina said. I have many COS items that fit well, and items that I've tried that were too big.

I can see the tee work well for you, Debbie. I like the very fluid fit WITH the scrunched sleeves.

Unfortunately, their sizing is all over the place. I size down if it looks oversized and sometimes go up one size if the cut is straight. Most is not petite friendly. If in doubt, I suggest to order in two close sizes.
