Bijou, I hear you! I had walked into the store a month back after hearing about it here and didn’t try a thing. I was convinced nothing would work for me, but I was envious of the materials and the concept of the clothes. This time, I was in a super positive body image mood (just reached 49lb loss, 26 to go) and I decided what the h*ll, I’ll never know unless I try and reminded myself worst case is I have a good laugh :).

Marilyn, I am slightly an inverted triangle as well. I think you’ll have fun exploring COS. I wore both items this week and received several compliments. I loved how I felt in them and how the pieces moved with my body. My work friends said that I exuded confidence and happiness when wearing the pieces — a great match with my inner feelings those days. I have no doubt that I’ll reach for them over and over again. We’re planning a group COS shopping trip in January as they are also intrigued. As Angie suggested, I did add structure in the other pieces to add balance. The drapey rust top was worn with navy slim cut ankle pants and burgundy pointy block heels. The navy dress was worn with burgundy pointy toe booties and burgundy tights, with the navy Hinge butterfly scarf. Sorry, no pics taken.

Fashiontern, what I love is that these pieces fit everyone differently and that you can easily play with the sizing on most pieces to add or reduce volume. I don’t know if they could ever do justice to the variety of ways it could fit an individual. It is so personal and unconventional. That said, the pics of the item itself, not worn has been more helpful for me to imagine how it might fit on me. The model pics aren’t very helpful unless that’s your body shape.

It is wonderful when you find a label that just “works” for you. I find it hard to make a leap of faith if I have never actually tried a label before. YLF does help in getting a good idea of unseen clothing and what will work. It is unhelpful when stores use tall, thin models online. Actual garment measurements are much more useful.

Thanks, everyone! Happily surprised by my success and glad to see others my size love COS, too. Angie’s explanation above makes sense in why some things worked — I have a broad strong shoulder line and I fill out the top. I just had to watch the neck line (no turtlenecks or mock necks for me) and look for something that hints at a waist.

YES.

COS can work VERY well for petites, and on those who have a slight frame.

In my experience, I've found that certain COS items work best on petites who can fill out the styles with broader shoulders, a larger bust, or are apple shaped. They don't allow the silhouettes to boss them around.

On my slight, regular height frame, I am often sized out of a COS item, but when the structure is in the right place - the piece works like a charm. I now have several COS items that fit well and make me feel fab. See Finds. I do particularly well with their knitwear.

I love COS style (and I’m just 5’1”) and ordered quite a few pieces last year. I was pleasantly surprised that several worked for me and I ended up keeping 2 sweaters that I wore often. They are warmer so I haven’t worn them yet this year. I would love to visit one of their stores.

We do not have a COS here, in Seattle, but I made plan to shop there while in LA, recently. I thought their pants fit TTS or even a bit small, but the dresses and tops were on the generous side (for me, anyway). I like the COS aesthetic. And now, having learned a bit about their sizing, I'll feel more comfortable to buy online.

Thanks, Deborah. I really admire your style and use of drape and architectural clothing — until today I did not ever dream of being able to carry it off myself. This trip to COS was a major aha moment, a finding of self, achieving an aspiration, and loosening artificial bounds of how I should dress (corporate, polished). Of course, most items won’t work for me but that is true of any store. Having lost 49 lbs this year, I am having to relearn my style and where to shop. It has been an emotional and rewarding journey. I can absolutely see how you could imagine a COS exclusive wardrobe.

Sounds like a very positive shopping experience. I’m also 5”2 and curvy and have the same experience with Cos. Their aesthetic is very much my style and their oversized designs mean I always size down. I wouldn’t find it all difficult to build a COS exclusive wardrobe lol xx

After hearing of Angie and Inge’s successes at COS this year, I decided to give them a go, despite being 5’2” and curvy and buxom and nothing like their models. And I exclusively purchase from petite clothing sizes, except today. I like drape that loosely defines my waist and curves so I was intrigued by COS. I was shocked at my success and found multiple pieces that worked that my husband also loved and even had to size down from my expected size. Ultimately I came away with a rust top and a navy dress and a plan to go back soon. I think Angie has said several times to let no shopping stone go unturned (or something like that). This was my shocking proof in this lesson. I would never have attempted this without YLF.
