I'm with BJ--unless I can get dear hubby to do it for me. Also, sock-sock-shoe-shoe, simply because my socks are in a chest under the bed, and my shoes are by the door.

I can reach my arms and hands around to bra-hooking position easily. It's the tension of stretching the band and trying to feel where the hooks are that cause the stress. I feel fine for a few seconds, but it takes me a lot longer than that to get the hooks aligned. I don't know how anyone can get all the hooks on at once. I have to do one at a time, and it just takes too long and is too uncomfortable. I wonder if it would be easier if I was still wearing my band too big.

What a funny thread! I never even realized that people hook in the front, much less so many! I'm a traditional hook in the back person though I do have a tough time with my sports bras sometimes. Hmmm, need to teach my two year old how to hook these for me

Well...I have frozen shoulder and it REALLY sux! It totally interferes with the way I get dressed. I have it from diabetes and meds...sometimes it's very bad and sometimes it's no too bad....

it does affect the clothing I buy and wear...no back buttons, lacing or zipping unless my husband does it for me.

My bras have on average 3 clasps so I have to do the front clasp and swivel, then hook arms through and adjust the girls. I also take off the bra by unhooking the arms first, swiveling the bra and unhooking it in the back.

I wonder if those of us who can't hook our bras in the back have poor flexibility that should be addressed? I'm wondering, are those of you who can hook your bra in back are particularly fit and flexible and do yoga or other exercises that increase flexibility compared to those of us who can't hook our bra in back? I for one weight lift and do cardio, but I skimp on flexibility exercises.

I do the front hook and wiggle back thing...hahaha...never thought about it until I saw this commercial where the hot model undid her hook-and-eye closure all the way down her corset.....in my DREAMS!

Husband does the corsets and sometimes the bras ONLY if I cannot twist it around myself.

I used to buy front closure bras...hmmm, dunno why I stopped. WOW...thanbks, I will look for front closure one sinse my shoulders are getting worse...totoally forgot!

How to put on a bra:

1) Select appropriate bra. This may vary depending on individual size (aka "endowedness"), style, occasion, clothing choice etc.

2) Hold bra by straps in front of body and carefully insert first one arm, then the other, into the straps so that cups are positioned in front of bosoms.

3) LEAN! Forward usually works best. Lean to enough of a degree to ensure all boobage is inserted firmly into cup. Again, degree of leaning depends on individual endowedness, or "boobage".

4) Scoop/fluff boobage in cups to ensure accurate positioning of boobage and maximum fillage of cups.

5) Wriggle/jiggle/yank. You may need to wriggle a little to feel comfortable. Jiggle the boobage to a final appropriate position. Yank the shoulder and back straps for maximum comfort.

6) Be proud of having accomplished one of the most overlooked but most important tasks of womanhood (unless you're Germaine Greer).

7) Take that boobage to the world. This often works best under an appropriate top/dress.

:-P (this is how I do it anyway...)

Ohhh, what an fun coversation to read after a little break from YLF - I really missed you all!

I'm a front and swivel. I can do both but because of my sticky out bits on my rib cage just below my bust line I find that the best placement that doesn't sit in the wrong place is the front and swivel technique. I do incorporate the lean foward bit to jiggle things into the right place!

As long as it isn't shoe, shoe, sock, sock I am not worried

Srujana, according to the fitter I worked with at Nordstrom, hooking at the back (and then bending slightly over to "scoop" yourself into place) is the correct method. That makes sense because it's probably harder on the bra/band when you hook in front and scoot it around to the back. Not to mention the occasional stabbing yourself with underwire while trying to rotate the bra, which I do sometimes - ouch!

However, I've never been able to hook in back, and have been trying to do so for the last 14 years - and now that I'm having a ton of wrist pain from typing a lot at work, trying to hook a bra in back is out of the question. I have a feeling that it wouldn't hurt my wrists quite as badly or be so difficult to reach if my natural waist wasn't so gosh darn high!

I can and do both. My mother taught me the front hook method, but I am extremely flexible, so I had always just hooked mine in the back. Most of the time I hook it low in the front or back over my waist (I have a 28" waist and a 32" band) that way there isn't tension on the hooks while hooking and the bra is still loose to turn around if I hooked it in the front. Then I pull it up and situate it.

I hook in front, then twist the bra around, put the straps on, and position everything within the individual cups. I really can't imagine doing it any other way. How can you possibly reach around back and hook it? The mind boggles.

I think AG just tipped the balance to hooking in front :)

I find this quite interesting, since it never even occurred to me to wear it any other way in all the years I've been wearing a bra.

I hook in front. The fitters always have you lean forward, but they don't come home with me to arrange my assets later.

But my mother does it like your cousin.
And I prefer sock sock, shoe shoe.:)

I'm willing to bet that any poll would show about a 50-50 split between these two methods. I've always been told by the lingerie ladies to do the lean-forward-hook-behind method but for the life of me I can't do it. So I do as your cousin.

How's the poll looking here so far?
