Haha if anyone knows what being hirsute in uncomfortable places is like, it's a South Asian lady! My husband says it's the price I have to pay for nice eyebrows, lol

I've actually started laser treatment in some areas as an answer to this (curly hair & my skin type leads to a lot of ingrown hairs, ouch!) but I still wax in other areas. As you probably know, you're advised not to get rid of the hair in between waxing appointments (shaving is ok for laser though), so I've had to be very good in between my appointments this year (I wear a wetsuit to swim), but...

...Before I started all that, I would use things like Nair/ Veet to dissolve & then scrape off the hair (TMI perhaps but I don't remove *everything*, just what's outside of the bikini area, so I feel less leery about it - but I'd recommending doing a test patch somewhere else first). Other possibilities could be threading, but I think you need to have a steady hand & a way to pull the skin really taut for this to be effective (please practice somewhere else before bringing the thread anywhere near your sensitive parts, lol!) I've not tried sugaring though.

Sylvie, thanks for the suggestion. What I’m doing now for swimming works fine. It’s the rest that I want to do something about. Nair won’t work for me with my allergies, and this is not a place I want a skin reaction.

If you just want to remove the hair that might show with a swimsuit, Nair used while wearing a pair of undies you don’t mind ruining works quite well.

I am a swimmer, too, and I use this trimmer. No ingrowns/irritation (as with a razor) and you can trim quite close. (Panasonic bikini shaper and trimmer if the link doesn’t paste in correctly.) I’ve had it for years and it’s still going strong. https://www.amazon.com/Panason.....B00005JS5C

Re- Your son’s trimmer, you might want to consider having your own. They are hard to disinfect and I think they are really for personal use, especially considering you are using it on a more personal area.

Eh, TMI for my taste as far as how to go about it, so I’m gonna pass.

I hope you and yours find a solution!

I bet there are tons of tutorials. I’m thinking Teen Vogue etc, might have some friendly content.

Zapotec, I appreciate you chiming in. When I’ve had these services done, things aren’t stripped completely bare—there is a trim little strip left. That’s what I’d like to do. Taking it all off looks disturbing to me, like I was 8 years old.

Echo, thank you! How silly of me not to realize that my son’s trimmer is designed for this. Case closed.

If you aren't going for bare - in which case a razor will do the job, but waxing is far preferable - you can use a trimmer. A good trimmer will have attachments up to 1" long, meaning you can trim to whatever uniform length you wish and then continue shaving the sides.

Hi- Old timer here, mostly a lurker now!

I’m assuming you and I have been around the block and are not twenty-somethings. (I so wish).

If I were you, I would refer back to
any of your former methods, to take care of the “dilemma”. I’ve had this equipment for a bit, before the advent of modern plucking methods, same for you, right? Keep it simple.

Happy shaving!

Personally, I have no experience with this type of beauty service or any other type of shaving device other than a basic razor. I cannot advise you adequately, I'm afraid. Hopefully you'll be sorted with helpful suggestions from others. Good luck.

Thanks Phoebe! I swim to workout. Swim shorts would add extra drag. I guess that would be similar to suits made for that purpose. So that works for when I’m swimming. I’m looking for something for when I take the suit off.

RL, have you used one there? I thought they hurt a little bit. Not true?

If you would be comfortable keeping an appointment then maybe now would be the time. Before I got my hair cut I asked a lot of questions about virus protection, mostly to be sure I would be in compliance, and if things had not been as cautious as they described I would have left.

Otherwise you could consider a less revealing swim option, like little swim shorts with a top or even over a one piece?

That's so great that you swim!

I don’t see the “ask Angie” option on my phone. That’s too bad; I wanted to run this topic past her to make sure it is’t too risqué for the blog. Yes, I’m talking about *that* hair down there. If you’re not interested, now is the time to click away.

In the before times, I used to get it waxed periodically, and I kept the sides shaved so I could wear a swimsuit. Just before shutdown, I noticed a place that does sugaring, googled it, and found there are several places in my city to get that done. A friend’s mom did that for me once, and it was really nice, so I was planning to make an appointment. Since the restrictions started, the only thing I have done there is shave on the sides so I can go to the pool, and I’m generally a hirsute person.

How have others dealt with this dilemma? I know there are home wax kits, but doubt I’d have the gumption to rip it off effectively. When I’ve tried cutting it in the past, it’s just looked hackneyed, a shorter version of unkempt. I have not tried googling for tutorials on how to trim hair down there.

Any advice?
