It gets cold enough for long coats on a few days but it is not dreadfully cold like in Chicago or Boston. What is your climate like? I am asking because I find that here I wear it usually for quite a short time in the fall, before it gets cold enough for coats. I can imagine it would get a lot more use in a warmer and drier climate. Sometimes I wear it under a trench coat, but not very often. You could also wear it over a l/s top for a more winter-like look.
