Thank you for the helpful comments and styling suggestions!

I decided to take the plunge due to happy color, fabrication with is more breathable than my lined jackets, "blardigan" style which is more casual but has more structure than cardigans, which often look sloppy on me, and can be comfortable for car and plane travel (whenever that returns).

In original post I added some more top options and tote bag from my wardrobe.

I vote for keep as well - I was expecting more of a salmon than watermelon colour, based on your description!

Agreed that it would look lovely with navy blue, but also a charcoal grey or even the summer colours you mentioned (olive, khaki, chocolate).

As for accent colours, I think a not-exactly-matching orange could still look great with the coral, especially if it's then worn with white bottoms to make it clear that you're not intentionally not going for a matchy-matchy look. Have you considered pairing it with teal, chartreuse or yellow, too?

Another vote to keep this fabulous piece. I think the black calms the co,or down. Grey would too, and maybe brown. I also love your black ankle strap flats.

I have that jacket but haven't worn it out of the house yet. I do like brighter colors, and this one does look good with navy. It has quite a bit of body for a knit--probably because it's linen. It will be great to wear with a tank top in air conditioning or the cooler summer evenings we usually have here.

I don't yet know about riding up in back. I need to my compulsion to save for best now that I'm home most of the time.

I think this looks fab with the navy and black. I hear you on the short opportunities to wear it - but those moderate temperature times of year are SO precious, I think it's well worth having something FAB to wear during it - even if only for a few weeks! And this is a very classic style so you can easily wear it for years to come.

Thank you UmmLila, celia, Synne, lisa p and Angie for your feedback!
Synne, you make a good point and I have to think about the back view. Because it is knit and no back vent or structure there, it can "hike up" in back which happens with not uncommonly with knit tops and toppers--I do K/R items on that basis and look for features like slight A-line fits, enough hip room, but it is unavoidable with lighter knits and my shape unless things are very long, tunic length, or so short that they would be too cropped for most pants and skirts..
Angie, thanks! I have one solid navy knit top I wear in summer. I have a BR flowered navy T that actually has orange in it, but I did not show because it's more tangerine than this coral, and is just not matchy enough to make me happy, or it would be fun.

Great styling, and if you wear it with navy, you will cool down the coral.

Definitely keep it. Looks great both dressed up and dressed down, and the knit makes it easier to transition between fall and spring. Colour-wise -hard to tell without seeing your face, but I think you have dark hair?

Lovely colour! You HAVE to pair it with navy, that is just a fantastic colour combination (Trinny Woodall approved :-D). I am not feeling it with black... makes it look more dated? The fit looks good and it has an interesting texture, that way it could be a classic statement jacket in your wardrobe for years and years. But how does it look from the back? I find where a jacket ends across the backside is a make or break..

Although I wear mostly "cool" colors and Raspberry is my color of the year, I run more earth tones in summer (olive, khaki, leather colors) and always gravitate to some versions of coral or orange--usually in prints where background is darker, and usually not too bright or neon which will overpower my coloring.

Angie posted this jacket in her recent post and while it really is too "bright" a shade of coral per se, I was interested in the dark slubbing and trim, which sometimes cools things off and also works well with dark bottoms--jeans or black or navy pants.

I didn't order any of the N& Z tops shown because that would make me look like a Talbot's ad for sure ( I own Talbot items so I can say that!).

I rather like it but have several questions for myself and the fashion gurus.
--it is still a bit bright for me and you can't really judge that by the photos, but the tweedy fabric plus using black, blue, navy helps that a lot.
--so, for me it will be with dark colors mostly giving the "bright topper over column of color" so I'm trying to think if that will be too Johnny-one-note. But it can be that thing that you find more things that work than you thought.
--in the pandemic, how often will I wear it and when? I have missed "cool spring". I would wear this into fall, but then wait until next spring again.
--It's not "classic" perhaps, but not sure what that would look like in a bright color and casual style, other than a cardigan or a chino fabric, and I steer way from pure linen.

Shown below are:
1--black T with jeans
2-EF linen stripe top with navy linen pants
3-Hudson cargo pants
4-Lafayette cropped pants + black T
5-same with stripe
6-Anthro ditsy print sleeveless top

Tried a white top and didn't like it so well. Will also try black T with white pants and maybe dark sneakers.

I find the bright color very cheering and I wear mostly dark pants even in summer, and column of black/gray/navy or similar is one of the main ways I wear light or bright jackets. . Also though black is not a face-flattering color for me now, I wear black T's in summer becauseI just like them and there is more skin showing, whereas a great black turtleneck is death on me. I can skew sloppy/frumpy in knit jackets but it has small shoulder pads; it does not have a back vent, which would have been better. The pockets have an interior snap, which may help keep them from bagging out when not in actual use.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

ETA I wore it yesterday and also am showing:

7-BR print tee that has a more tangerine orange--that bugs me some because I am matchy

8=My Fossil tote for desert capsule of olive, khaki, blues, orange/coral

9 JC linen knit top--perfect color but has longer high-low hem so not sure I will like it hanging out in back

10-older TJMaxx T with blue/black/white stripes
