Like Aida, I'd say we go for the same "dressiness level", but it's not hard. We gravitate toward similar styles, and both of us err on the side of underdressing. I am comforted by the fact that he, too, feels silly when overdressed for an occasion. As far as coordinating colours, no, we don't do that at all -- not deliberately -- but as it happens, we both pretty much wear neutrals, so I guess we normally "go".

The only thing I can think of is that I won't go out of the house wearing the exact same pair of boots as my hubby. We both own the boots in the pics below (although I bought mine first!), and if I get dressed and then see he already has his on, I'll swap mine out (I have more choices). ;-)

Hm we do this a bit but not purposefully. Primarily we match dressiness levels, because we both like to feel appropriately dressed for whatever it is we're doing. Since we both skew urban and wear the same neutrals it kind of happens by default. Now if you asked my husband whether or not this was the case I have a feeling he'd say "no we don't coordinate" because he doesn't get a lot of what I wear -- It's been commented on by others and he found it very, very strange

Glad it's not just me. I guess I personally DO notice what others are wearing so I assume others might be noticing what we wear, especially for dressier than usual occasions. Marin, for sure it's not worth arguing with small kids for daily outings....I remember those days!

As for the leather jacket question, I am thinking of a family that we would sit behind in church years ago and all four of them had brown leather jackets....Dad, Mom, and two teenage boys. We always thought of them as the "Leather Jacket Family." I have recently been thinking about getting a scuba-type leather jacket for outerwear, but am afraid of looking too matchy with my husband, who always wears a leather jacket. LOL...first-world problems for sure

I buy a lot of my husband's clothes so I generally like them. However, I tried to get him to buy some fashionable shoes - desert boots - and he stubbornly refused just because they weren't comfortable enough. What are you going to do?

Anyway, I usually just try to make sure we look like we're dressed for the same event. That is, the level of dressiness, rather than colors.

I do this to some degree. DH and I have the tendency to wear very matching outfits, which neither of us like. One of us (this means DH) will do a quick top change so we do not look like twins. I cannot think of a time someone changed so that we would not clash. This is probably because we wear the same neutrals and gravitate to the same color schemes. Now the kids, this is a totally different matter. They wear what they are going to wear. This means there is either lots of clashing because one does not want to match or they match down to undies because they must match. Occasionally for family events I will make sure the clan is somewhat coordinated. Of course my desire to look like my clothes are effortless is extended to coordinating the family. No jeans and white shirts on everyone!

We tend to end up wearing color coordinating or matching outfits a lot, simply by chance, we like a lot of the same colors. For many years we shared a lot of items of clothing (the tail end of the grunge era, so flannel shirts, tees, jeans, converse).

I rarely worry about dressiness level, since I tend to over dress for fun and if he's not at work he's very RATE or in gear, but occasionally when we're going out somewhere and he notices I'm in a dress and heels, he will trade in his favorite worn biking tee shirt for a button up (still a biking gear shirt, lol, but in better condition).

So interesting! Emily, it seems like a good omen if you and your DH rarely clash, LOL. And I loved the story about the family party!

DH and I do try to match one another's dressiness levels. And once I happened to notice that (by chance) we "went" together on an evening out -- we weren't matching but the colours were amazingly harmonious. All things being equal, on date night especially we try not to wear things that fight. :)

My DH always wants to 'co-ordinate, if not 'match' colors, and the same level of dressiness in whatever we are wearing anytime we go out, whether if its for dinner, shopping, etc. Personally, I don't care, but he does, so its ok. Mostly, colors. That's the main thing. I try to co-ordinate 'dressy levels' much more than he does

One time I suggested to DH that he wear his plaid shorts and a light polo shirt out on a day trip with some relatives of mine. He did, and looked great. When we got there, my Uncle and Cousins were all wearing pretty much the same thing: plaid shorts and polo shirts. My Aunt had suggested the outfits. Hilarious and totally unplanned.

DH and I match by accident, pretty often, for example light shirts and dark jeans. We try to be equally dressy when we go out together, but otherwise don't put much effort into matching (or not matching). I can't think of a time we've ever clashed....

Well, I was going to say that you are indeed just a wee bit nuts;-). However, now you have me thinking that I'm not paying enough attention to the times when DH and I are wearing the same color combos. We both wear quite a bit of neutrals. When we're set to go out, all I tend to focus on is whether he achieved the appropriate level of dressiness. I should probably stop and look at both of us in the mirror to see what everyone else will see as we walk around together. Maybe you're not so nuts after all.

Do you care if you match or clash with your s/o when you go out? My family thinks it's hysterical but if we are about to leave the house and I notice we are clashing or (worse) wearing the same color, I will frequently suggest one of us change. This is also true if the whole family is going out together. It really bugs me if three of us are wearing stripes, for example.

If we are really dressing up for an occasion, I will make an effort to coordinate our outfits/colors....just in case we end up in a photo :-)

Here's another related quirk: If you and your spouse both have leather jackets, do you wear them at the same time? The same color leather?

Am I nuts, or do you guys get it??
