Hi MaryK...

I want to be sure I understand...you are just tying two of the corners together, right? What happens to the untied corners? I can do the infinity part but when I tried this the untied corners sort of hung there like an arm sling waiting to be used!

Am I missing something, or is that where the messy comes in?!

I love this trick!

Another trick I love is to hold it out full length and tie one corner to the opposite diagonal corner to make a loop, then twist in a figure 8 and fold the two loops together to make sort of a double infinity scarf. It's a nice messy look. Does that make sense? Here's a photo of it in action (I know it's dorky -- it was karaoke night!).
This is a great tip Peri! I do this with my long rectangular scarves, too. It really does wonders for lightening up the final look, especially on the gauzy types as you said.

This is likely old news to most of the gang, but I'm sharing it in case there is someone like me who might love it. I am very new to scarves but have loved them this winter. I just bought a new one at Ann Taylor and the SA showed me this great trick for the oblong kind.

Instead of just folding it straight lengthwise, hold the point of one corner and smooth it out from there so that it is bunched on the diagonal. It adds about two feel of length so you can wrap twice and still have tails, or once and have very long tails. Even better, the tails are slimmer and pointed...which she told me was slimming.

it works great with scarves that are gauzy and voluminous...like the one I bought but also like one I've had for about 10 years and could never get the hang of wearing because the tails always looked so puffy. This may seem kind of "duh" but it was a lightbulb experience for me!
