Joy, I'm not sure if Cons are going to be the right shoe to wear with clam diggers. If you can't wear open toed shoes, maybe look for something with a low vamp...like....
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/51412291/c/422.html

or I wonder if something like this is too sporty??

Joy - I wear P.F. Flyers. They are a re-issue of the same ones I wore as a kid!

They are very similar to Converse, but they do not come in all the great colors that Converse do. I have the black ones, and I might order the red ones. They do look slightly different - but for my foot they are more comfortable. Also, I have fairly long feet and the PF Flyers make them look a tiny tiny bit smaller than the Cons.

Of course, the true Converse fans will recoil in horror, and it sounds like you're getting the same comfort with your inserts. But I just thought I'd mention it.

Joy,
I do not think that the ones at Target are the same as All Stars. I think that they are called one stars and are not the same classic look. Converse all stars are the same everywhere. I got a brand new pair on ebay that are perfect for about 10.00 less than DSW. I know some do not trust ebay but with something so standard it was not much of a risk. Would love to see a picture of you in them!

Angie, last fall I bought the black version and really wanted them to work. I picked up the grey laceless but haven't tried them around the house yet. I was thinking of adding laces to them but don't know if that will work. My biggest problem now with Converse (and all lace up shoes) is that after awhile the tops of my feet hurt like a nerve is being pinched. I tie very loosely to avoid this. So far this has worked well. Maybe the laceless style will be good for me in casual situations.
I saw cute Converse with designs on them at DSW but am not sure how to wear them. I'm also thinking of an oyster white perforated leather or leatherette and/or a white/silver metallic both at Target. I'm leaning toward the oyster pair as the metallic seems a very young look. It has a shiny star on the side.
Kh, I need arch support so added a Dr. Scholls light blue full length of shoe insert that provides a stiff support at the arch and soft heel cushion. I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the style. I had to go to thin socks or my microfishnet kneehighs, but they should work this summer with no socks. I'm not supposed to wear open sandals anymore, so hope these will be good casual summer shoes with clamdiggers. Don't give up on your Converse. The right inserts for your feet can make them comfortable.
BTW, has Converse ever made a boot? (thinking of laceup with a side zipper in leather) My son thinks it's hysterical that his little old mom is wearing Converse.

I own the baby pink version from target. I can't say about quality much because I have only worn then a handfull of times so far, but they seem to be great manufacturing quality, but I did notice 1 small asthetic detail that is different.

In other converse the white toe goes straight acrossed. On the ones I have from target, the white part is arced across the toe. Not sure why....

Yay, Joy! Which colour did you get?

Converse All Star quality is standard. It doesn’t make a difference where you get them if the brand is “Converse”. I personally prefer the lace ups because there is something magical about those crisp white laces. But Greg has the slip-ons and they look great on him.

What insert and sock do you use? I find my Converse not as comfy as they should be.

Joy, I have a pair of slip on Cons...they are definitely more casual than the laced ones...but even the laced ones are pretty casual. I will say that having no laces does not make them any easier to put on or take off. You still have to hold onto the tongue of the shoe to get your foot in there.

I don't know anything about the Target ones, but the ones sold at DSW are the same shoes sold by Converse stores.

After some experimenting I've managed to get a combination of inserts and right weight of sock to make my Converse very comfy 12 hour shoes. Now I'd like some more. Does anyone know if the quality of the Converse sold at DSW and Target is comparable to that of the shoes at the Converse store. Does it make any difference where you buy the shoes?
I found the grey style that doesn't come with laces today at Target. They slip on and look like you took out the laces. What do you think of this look?
