They were one of my first YLF lemming buys last summer , and I just shake my head at them now. I wore them 2 or 3 times last summer, if that, and the one time I put them on this summer I felt ridiculous in them. (with the VC tube skirt). The whole look just isn't me, and even as a casual shoe with jeans, they feel too preppy and prissy to me. All the lacing, tightening, fussing and tucking in of laces is too much work . They irritate me every time I see them on my shelf unworn. Note to self to pass them on.

Thanks, everyone. I've really enjoyed hearing everyone's opinions. Anyway, I think I'll keep them for now and see how I feel about them in autumn outfits. I'm glad to hear that nobody thinks they're horribly dated.

Angie, I was wondering whether you still had yours. I'm sorry to hear they hurt your feet. Mine are still OK with inserts, although I do find the sole a bit hard so I don't like to wear them for hours of pounding the pavement (they're fine for commuting/work though).

Suz, you're right about the ankle support. I think also I might reach for them more when it's colder and the slip ons leave too much ankle exposed to the cold. I don't take them on trips though - as I mentioned in reply to Angie, I don't actually find them comfortable enough for that.

Deb, yup that's me too. Too lazy to tie laces! I admit I take my oxfords on and off without untying sometimes.... but there's no way to do that with high-tops.

I don't think even I have seen them around lately! the slip-ons are more comfortable, but I think durability wise, the lace-ups are a good fit! Also I have seen some girls these days wearing the boots more than the high-ankles!

I find the ankle support is really great -- I love them on trips where I'm doing a lot of walking. Good grip, gives a bit of height, funks up a skirt, etc.

I've found them VERY popular among Asians (Not trying to be racist at all, just that they are the market group who tend to be wearing them nowdays, I still wear mine sometimes tbh.)

If it's neon coloured - chuck it out. I am sorry but if that's what they are they're beyond dated and do not need to be anywhere near your feet.

Black, white, grey, tans - keep wearing them.

It really depends on what you wear them with, a bit like tall boots. With black jeans an a tee then I say go for it!

I really don't think it is a "datedness issue" they were super trendy as a fringe trend for awhile, but they still look current as a "combo" shoe. It isn't like the crazy wedge sneakers from the 90s or the stiletto Tims or anything.

I find I like the slipons better because I do not like tying the laces. I am wearing mine to my grandsons soccer games because they are easier to walk on the fields.

The wedge is hidden so I don't think they look dated. Didn't those Tims Angie loved from NAS, have a hidden wedge? The obvious wedge sneakers look a bit more dated to me though.

Oh good point, Suz. I think the slip on sneakers are a lot easier (no laces to tie) and less hot for summer, so once I got those I stopped wearing the Hi Nesses in summer. But I'll see how I feel about them once fall weather hits. I did get those grey jeans in the spring that are the same color, which might be interesting.

And to Janet's point, I do like that they make me taller!

I still wear my white ones, Diana, but I wear them more often in what I think of as our "shoulder" seasons -- early spring and fall -- before it gets hot enough for sandals or cold enough for booties. I use them then when I need a comfy, light coloured footwear option or if I am wearing white jeans for leg lengthening. I think I wore mine the most this year when we were in Israel in March. The weather then would be similar to the kind of weather we get around here in mid to late April, and I wore them almost every day on that trip.

I don't think they are super popular any more and I think the wedge sneaker has technically had its day, but I am keeping mine and will continue to wear because they're a super useful shoe to me. When they wear out I'll look for an alternative.

Oh - - and the other reason I keep is that I still haven't found "my" perfect white summer shoe and I really want white or cream footwear for summer. So there is that.

I still wear my black and white Ash Genials -- they're really good for wearing to rock shows where I need comfortable shoes but I'll be standing a lot and would like a little extra height to see over the crowd. However, for me they serve an entirely different purpose than slip-on sneakers -- I will wear slip-ons with shorts and summer outfits. The Genials I wear with straight or skinny jeans or my moto pants.

I haven't worn the dark green Ash Bowies in quite a while. I still like them, but I wonder if they are dated at this point. Somehow the Genials seem more current. The Bowies looked more like the Marant sneakers that started the whole trend. The Bowies are not summer shoes for me, so we'll see if I feel like wearing them when the weather turns cooler.

I wear mine. I have a black/gray camo pair and a white cut-out pair.
They are wonderful for places with warm humid weather.
In or out, I love mine and will continue to wear them.
The soles do wear out pretty quickly, unfortunately.
