I too would recommend Appleseeds as a place to look. The Vermont Country Store carries a lot of cotton clothing in more traditional styles so that might be worth a look. http://www.thevermontcountrystore.com. I didn't read all the replies here too carefully, did anyone recommend Sierra Trading Post? They might be worth a look too. Good luck, sounds like quite an ordeal and you have such a great and positive attitude going into it. Body part replacement has become so common but it's still quite a big thing to go through.

Soft pants and loose dresses/skirts sound great. I do have to be evil and ask "why not pyjama pants" though? There are some fantastic ones around these days to suit all tastes and (if you have the budget for it) could look super comfy and cool in a recliner
Wishing you all the best with the surgery and recovery.

During a recent hospital stay we noticed compression socks in the gift shop with bright, fun designs on them. So they're out there if that's something you want to look for.

Rachylou, yes. I will wear compression stockings at first. I don't think there's a way in the world to make those things look stylish! But yeah, the incision area is one reason I want loose on my knees.

So many great thoughts and ideas! Thanks everyone. Your support is amazing. I'm a puddle of gratitude right now.

I'm not having surgery just yet... a couple more months. I have tests to get done and exercises to do in advance. I'm a plan ahead gal, and want to be prepared for my summer. The first weeks will be fairly fashionless, after which as healing progresses I will be up and about, and occasionally out on the town... well, running an errand or two. My dog enjoys going to the bank, so there's that.

A couple nice long summer skirts and a pair or two of loose white pants (that look nice) will give me the options I need. I've already ordered a few things to try on.

Will you be wearing the anti-embolism stockings?

After my hernia surgery, I wore sweater dresses. Of course, it was winter. But the main thing was it was one-and-done, and non-irritating around the incision area...

Joy cracked me up - "Shopping on-line while on pain meds is probably not a good idea". Hahaha!

I just tried on the Athleta linen pants suggested by delurked. They are very nice - something I think you'd feel very "dressed" in when visitors come. But they feel like pajama pants, with the bonus of pockets!
rough twiceNe wants
They only go to size 16, but their pants run large. I always wear at least one size smaller, so they might be the perfect fit. Also come in petite and tall if you need that.

http://athleta.gap.com/browse/.....=591449002

http://athleta.gap.com/browse/.....=213046002

Best of luck to you with your surgery. So glad you are able to have both replacements done at the same time. I gather it's not something anyone wants to go through twice.

Worked my way through some of the comments and see Suz suggested JJill, which us what I thought of too. They seem to have several white pants. I also think skirts could fit the bill here. I see Athleta has a white linen pant too.

I have plenty of empathy for you! I spent many months either in the hospital or recuperating at home a couple of years ago.

I bought a couple of Rachel Pally maxi skirts - modal jersey knits in great colors and patterns. She has palazzo pants too, though not sure about white. Also try Poetry - linens and cottons in very easy styles but lovely muted colors - generous sizing too. I bought a couple of long linen skirts from them and some easy trousers.https://www.poetryfashion.com/.....ousers.htm

Also Splendid. And Soft Surroundings has pretty at-home leisure wear that focuses on softer flowy fabrics. And I was just looking for CP Shades stuff - and found a website, Bliss. See link for wide leg cropped white linen pants (and other colors too).
https://www.blissboutiques.com.....linen.html

I think I ended up watching every possible episode of everything on Food Network, at least three times! Hope all goes well!

When I was recovering from a major surgery three years ago, I lived in a knit jersey maxi skirt and a similar midi length one. Also a pair of old cotton gaucho style yoga pants from ~2003. (Funny-ish story: the surgery was an emergency one, unplanned, and the ER nurses wanted to cut that midi skirt off me, but I insisted they save it. Took two nurses plus my husband to lift me up and wiggle it off me .)

Linda, your attitude is amazing! I am just blown away by your can-do spirit.

I have a thought. For summer, what about loose linen pants. Yes, they will wrinkle, but so what? You'll still look amazing. Now, I'm not sure they will slip over your knees, and I know nothing about sizing, but my thought was these from J. Jill: https://www.jjill.com/jjillonl.....N&h=M

I have a similar pair from J. Crew and they are four years old and still going strong. Really useful and versatile.

I'm also going to put in a vote for long skirts/ dresses.

These aren't quite right, but Amazon might have a few choices for you.

I immediately thought of wearing maxi dresses or skirts for this time, too, but sometimes you may want more coverage or not want to deal with the long hems. I don't know if you'll be on crutches but I was for weeks after breaking toes and preferred ankle pants because tripping over long hems was the last thing I needed!

You are wise to be considering this now. Shopping on-line while on pain meds is probably not a good idea. A white skirt that is longer could be a good solution. I saw one that I will try to find. Later, you could always have it shortened.

ETA:
The skirt is EF, a pull on midi tube skirt but I could not find it to collect. I did collect a couple pair of pants in white. There are others that are ankle or cropped

I was just in Old Navy yesterday and they have some drawstring pants (they look like linen but I didn't check the tag) that I'm sure would work for you, and they have them in white. You could get them online, too.
I wear the Starfish pants often. They wash and wear very well. The leggings seem to run large, but the rest are true to size. Good luck! My mom had both her knees done in one year. Hoping you bounce back quickly!

Thanks, Sterling. I've often said I want to grow up to be like Judge Judy. Of course, she dresses in a judicial robe (which would be great for knee replacement), but I suspect she's quite stylish beneath that robe. I know that in the first week or three I probably won't care what I'm wearing, but I like having a few outfits planned to look forward to.

Thank you, everyone! How wonderful to have people who understand me. My family members just say, "Who cares? Wear sweatpants or PJs. No one's going to see you." But... but... I see me. My husband sees me. I will go to the doctor and surely someone will see me. What a sad life if no one ever sees you!

Clementine, I should have thought of LLBean. Right up my alley. Thanks!

kkards, Lands End! Those didn't show up on my search right before I wrote here. Where were they hiding? Might be perfect.

Sara L., maxi skirts could work and I will have to try them. I don't own any right now, so that might portend a shopping binge. ;)

Traci, I'm liking Dharma Trading Company. Those gaucho crops are calling to me. Just long enough and nice and wide.

Leona, thanks for mentioning QVC. I never thought of them, but they do often carry the perfect thing.

No ideas whatsoever, but I want you to look cute in your recliner. I want you to be a vision of positivity. It is those types of people that inspire me going forward. I need people like you to lead by example.

Eureka! I was stumped by "white" and then I remembered Dharma Trading Co. They sell lots of natural fiber clothes in white, for dying. They have several pants styles that I think might fit your need. http://www.dharmatrading.com/c.....g_women.ht

White knit cotton (or presumably other natural fiber?) full-length plus-size not-pyjama-looking pants (did I get everything?) sounds like an excellent candidate for an etsy custom order.

Have you thought about long knit skirts? Those might allow easier access to your knees for ice packs, etc while also providing coverage.
