I was also going to vote clay wide legs for you.

They may be pricey, but as others have said, something quality that works with your wardrobe will get worn... end of story. CPW will eventually make it worthwhile. So I wouldn't worry about that (as long as you can afford it of course) as long as they are 10's and DO fit in with your wardrobe.

YLF is indeed wise! I sat down this afternoon and inventoried all of my pants. Everything is below except for 3 pairs of leggings, 2 pairs of nylon hiking pants, and a pair of sturdy khakis that I keep for chore/garden/extra-casual weekend wear.

You're all correct that white/light is conspicuously absent from my wardrobe because I do indeed get stains on my pants *all the time*. I clearly love medium earth-tone bottoms and my #1 alternative to black and blue denim. I have three pairs of olive pants right now, and they are all relaxed-tapered fit. I have two pairs of wide-leg crops but they are rust and black. I wear my

I think the the clay wide legs are probably the least likely to split wears with anything else that I own. I like that the clay is somewhere in between brown/khaki and fatigue/olive. I obviously have a thing for front seams (my Madewell crops and Alex Mill ankle pants), so I'm leaning toward placing an order for them next Monday, when custom orders re-open. It'll probably be my only February purchase, barring any too-good-to-pass-up thrift finds.

I'd lean towards clay, just for the stain factor, but since they're 100% cotton, the natural are easily dye-able. I would have never considered it until one of the employees featured in ES's "Team Style Tuesday" had a brilliant chartreuse tunic. Turned out, she regularly got the natural color and dyed. I'd understand if the price point made you hesitant about experimenting (it would me too), but nice option to have in your back pocket if they got discolored.

I think you could rock either style, and I don't think you'd regret any Elizabeth Suzann piece you purchased. If you do decide to buy, try to order on a Monday. Seems like they're reaching their weekly capacity earlier and earlier recently.

The natural sounds fun and fresh, but I worry about staining, and wonder if they are see-thru. Do you like the way a pleated pant fits on you? The top of the tapered ones look pleated-ish - a cut I don't care for on myself, but maybe you don't mind?

I am always concerned about light colours for pants. Maybe you have magic powers. I love the clay colour. I see that fitting in with your wardrobe. My first thought was the wide-legged ones but the tapered fit might work well too.
They are a good price for ES pants. I have heard so many good things about ES. I think of pieces like this (my Jesse Kamm pants, for example) as long term residents in my wardrobe and not guests. After a couple of years, the price starts to make sense.

The tapered fit looks as timeless as it gets! If high wasted, pleat front, slightly cropped (mom fit?) stays current. Very pretty pants. How does cotton canvas launder?

2 years or so ago I paid full price of $179 for my olive snakeskin pants. Ouch that hurt! I thought about it for 11 months. I waited for a sale but they never went on sale...bit the bullet and wore them 78 times before relegating to old clothes. The next year, found exactly the same ones on sale for $60 plus an ink pair the same so bought both! Olive have now had 44 wears and ink 47 wears since then. If they’re right, they’re right.
Most of my pants I get from brands/shops where I know the quality, NZ or Australian made if possible, on sale for $50-100.
Onto yours: will they be cropped on you? I like the wide-legged clay pair for you, it looks most like you somehow?

Elizabeth Suzann is running a clearance sale on their cotton canvas styles to make way for a new 100% recycled cotton fabric. I'm tempted to try a pair of Clyde pants but am torn over colour and silhouette. Do I go for the wide crop or the classic tapered version? And, do I go for natural (like a painter's pant!) or the versatile clay colour? I'm not sure if I can actually bring myself to pay $200 for pants, even though there's a good chance these would end up with a low cost-per-wear eventually. So this is a fantasy-shop for the moment, but perhaps if YLF can help me find clarity I'll pull the trigger!
