Toban, Thanks for that info—“indigo jeans” is a really useful description for color matching.
Janet, Yes, navy and black may be neutrals, but it doesn’t mean other colors coordinate with them! In a way, I’m lucky that all my summer hiking base layers are finally pitted out, so I can buy a couple of things that will work together.
Kkards, Thanks for posting the find :-)
Kathie and Elly, it does look pretty. Seems like I’ll need to order it, *then* go shopping for the base layers.

I have a pair of athleta running capris in that color and I love the color. Very versatile. I found it true to the online color. Anything that goes with indigo jeans goes with this color.

I agree that descriptions and photos can be so unreliable when it comes to color (and other things!) — I would order them to try. I like the color as it appears and agree that it should be pretty versatile. I actually have a strangely challenging time with navy bottoms unless I stick with white or grey tops or something with a print that has a matching navy, because so many of my summer tops are blue or have blue in them, but the blues fight with one another. If you are not so reliant on blue tops, I bet this color will be even better for you.

I also wish I could get away with a skort! They look so cute on others, and I love the sporty vibe, but on my legs, eek. Not so cute. Maybe if I see them in store I’ll try them on for grins (I need to make a trip to the grocery store and Nordstrom Rack today and there’s an Athleta in the same shopping center). If I see them, I’ll let you know and report on the color.

added the find....
i'm not good with colors....i'd wear it with white and call it a day LOL....but since they are a gap company, i've found that they ship pretty fast and returns are easy, so i'd order it so you can see the real color...

Yeah-- I call that color steele blue . . . I think it is very versatile, so long as you are wearing other colors that go with the cool or warm tone.

I’d go for it, though I will admit that I love blues with a hint of green. And I agree with all of jussie’s color suggestions.

Jussie,
Thanks!
The mint/aqua/turquoise family was definitely a thought, as well as pink/peach/coral and baby yellow.
Shopping online is very difficult! Monitors don't always show colors properly.

I think it could pretty much work like a neutral. I see it working with: white, black, beige, Light grey, Grey marle, charcoal, ice blue, soft and medium pinks, maybe orange, maybe mint green, black, certain purple/mauves, yellow, coral. Possibly forrest green? Also any print that contains mid blue or even navy within it.
Best of luck with your shopping and painting.

I'm looking to build a small summer camping/hiking capsule. It will need to be quite compact as our camper's storage for clothes (as opposed to *actual* gear) is quite small.
This year's summer buy was going to be a navy skort, with 2 s/s tops in a wicking fabric, and 1 l/s top in similar or maybe a UPF fabric. Navy skort b/c I'm tired of black, and love olive, but the colors that work with olive aren't always great near my face in a top.
Then I saw this cargo skort at Athleta's site in constellation blue:
https://athleta.gap.com/browse.....=274114022
(Sorry! Still haven't figured out the Finds function yet. :-/ )
The 1-800 CSR said it's "a midnight blue with green undertones." If you search that color on their site, it ranges from a light navy to a deepest smoky teal, depending how the garment fiber took the dye. It's really an awesome shade.....
Do y'all think it's too far from a neutral, and hard to coordinate?
Or should I go for it, and if so, what kinds of colors would look good with it?
PS to Janet: This is what I've been obsessing about this week instead of more usefully obsessing about one of my thesis paintings!
