One more vote for the Matisse! They are a better height, add more variety, and that color I bet you can wear with bare legs when it's warm.

I vote Matisse! I have similar boots, and wear them ALL the time! I love the color and the buckle!

The other ones are too similar to your black boots.

I have Matisse boots that are verrrrrry similar to the ones you posted; one of the buckles is in a different spot, but same height/slouch/color. I LOVE THEM. They are very comfortable. I wear them under wider boot cuts, or with leggings. My "skinny" jeans/jeggings are not fitted at the bottom and end up looking like your pic #4, a look which I haven't yet embraced (where the tucked part of the jean matches the width of the boot). BUT, it looks good on you! I think I'll have to try it.

I like the matisse booties on you. The cole haans are a weird height, they have the potential to be shortening. I love the cobalt skinnies!

I have this black pair (the last of the three individual pictures). It has flaps on the side that tend to come apart a bit so I don't always like how these boots look in the photos from the front. I also thought that perhaps having a non-black pair might be good for bookending with lighter tops.

So far, looking at the photos, I am not sure whether the fit of the new boots (dark brown or lighter brown) is that much better than the black pair I already have.

I'll try the lighter boots with skirts, too, but they might be too rugged and wide for skirts.

I added another picture to the original post for the side-by-side comparison of fit.

Goodness, I'm confused too! I'm liking pics 3-5 for the fit, but which are the ones you already have of the last three pictures? Are they duplicating too much?

Mmm... I'm on the fence about both of these. They seem to duplicate the proportion of the boots you already have. Keep looking, remember Angie's 3 Ps!

I "happened" to buy 3 pairs of brown boots. I can keep none of them, all of them, or any number of them. I am getting more and more confused so decided that I will take 2 out of 3 and snap a few pictures. #3 will follow in a separate post, perhaps tomorrow (they are quite different in style and suede, not leather). Right now I have one pair of leather boots that I can tuck jeans in. Altogether, I have two pairs of tall riding boots for skirts and one pair of shorter black boots for tucking. I thought that it might be good to add boots for tucking jeans in and for more spring-like weather.

Pic#1 and the last one (#7) - the only shorter boots I currently have (black Dolce Vita Storm). The "flaps" tend to come apart a bit so they look kind of slouchy and not very sleek, at least from the front (as in pic#1, front view).

#2, 6 - Cole Haan boots. I had them before, returned because I was not sure about the fit, and re-ordered them because I did not like anything else. Pricey but good quality, not very soft.

#3-5 - new Matisse boots. On sale ($39). Very soft. Lighter than Cole Haans. I tried them with skinny cobalt jeggins and straight leg cobalt jeans, dark skinnies, and under trousers.

I thought that it might be a good idea to get lighter boots for bookending with lighter tops. However, it looks like they do not create a very sleek leg line with dark denim. I am also not sure how they look under trousers.

Any thoughts?

Edited to add: I added one more picture comparing current owned boots (black) with the new Matisse boots (taupe). Is it my imagination or do the lighter boots fit a bit better?
