MJ - here to chime in with my usual comment: curviness is not how shape is determined. It's the straight-across contours you want, not the circumference.

Picture a flat piece of black paper outlining the silhouette. No curves whatever but you'd know what shape you were looking at. Hope that's helpful.

PS - I do not wear fitted buttondowns for exactly the reason you describe.

Hi everyone! Thanks for your replies!

It's been very inspiring to hear other people's takes on it!

I really need to look better into the Kibbe body types, great idea! I will update here when I have a better idea about that.

@Jaime Thanks for the supersweet reply! The "anything that fits well" is a pretty hard one though! trying to find a button-up shirt that fits both shoulders and waist properly is mission impossible haha. I could have the waist taken in, but when the shoulders are wide enough, the arm holes usually get too big and I have funny fabric underneath my armpits, which is a bit harder to tailor away.

Welcome to ylf, Mara J! I’m not so good at body types either, but I think Sals “tall, lean hourglass” is on to something. Your description sounds a bit like me, besides I’m petite and my shoulders are slightly sloping. I think of myself as more of a rectangle with hourglass as my secondary body type. But when I gain weight I turn into an apple. Let’s see what others have to say

Hi and welcome to the forum, to me you sound like a tall lean hourglass with some curve mostly due to muscle.

I tend to think more in the Kibbe body types now and you could be a flamboyant natural - if you are tall, lean with some bluntness in your bones. Or maybe one of the dramatics.

Hi Mara - I don't really go by body shapes or know that much about them, but you are tall and strong and I would guess look stunning in anything you like that fits well and accommodates your strength and stature. I hope someone else can be more helpful!

Hi all,

Just new here! I discovered this forum trying to figure out my body type, but I'm really confused about it. I hope you can help me out. Also looking forward to other styling advice on here!

So about the body types: I'm 180 cm tall with broad shoulders, small boobs, and wide hips. According to online calculators that still makes a hourglass shape, but I don't tick any of the boxes (not curvy etc. etc.).

The wider parts of my body are mostly a result of doing loads of sports. I used to be rectangle for sure (no curves, flat chest).

Now, my measurements are:
shoulders: 98 cm
Bust: 91 cm (small boobs, but relatively wide circumference because muscles)
Waist: 71 cm (>25% smaller than both shoulders and hips, but not bust).
Hips: 101 cm

Can anyone help figure out what type that would make and what I would need to look into for styling? Thank you!

Edit: I don't have exact measurements from the front at hand, but the ratio is similar to the circumferences.
