I’ve always loved menswear looks on women, and they’re more authentically me - I think - than pencil skirts, sheath dresses and other stereotypically feminine boardroom wear. That said I’ve always had an aspect of both to my style, but am currently leaning pretty hard into tougher looks in my casual wear too - for example, today I paired the checked bomber and striped top with distressed black jeans and docs. But last year I attended my company's leadership conference for the first time and pulled together this capsule. Being a technical resource in a somewhat blue collar industry for the first 20+ years of my career, the environmental norm has been overall male-dominated, very casual and NOT stylish: think old jeans and vendor tee shirts, even at technical conferences. Having recently transitioned to a leadership role this was an opportunity to show off my post-pandemic wardrobe and excitement about some of the current trends. What was most interesting and fun for me was the fact that my relatively "crazy" Mary Janes and plaid pants pairing, which I wasn't even sure I would end up wearing if I didn't feel confident when the time came, attracted so much notice and compliments. On my end I also enjoyed seeing people who also bucked the norm just a bit - from the woman rocking a pretty sexy cutout shoulder top, body con jeans and lug soled high top Converse, to the more subtle choice of a suit with some sparkle in it worn with a little champagne-themed brooch (the wearer said, "how often do we get to be both business-y and celebrating?" when I complimented her). As women in a male-dominated industry, it's refreshing to be able to express ourselves this way! </p>
