When I was younger it seemed to have more of a negative meaning but now it seems people use it proudly as a badge of honor to say they know a lot about something in the sense that they are passionate about it. I do admit that she's way an outlier though :-)</p> <p>As for being a geek - I consider that a good thing. When I was in CS, I used to call myself a geek. I still call myself a geek in my new field. To me it means someone who has taken the time to gain expertise and go deep in something.
