Just a note: if you learn about the advanced 12 season color analysis system, you will see that each season is actually a 'blend' of two seasons. So yes, you can be a blend of several seasons. Each will have its own unique look to it.

Okay Nicole! The colours that you get complimented on make perfect sense. You probably look best in shades with blue undertones instead of yellow ones. Like more of a blue red instead of an acidic red. And I’m so glad that the penny has dropped with respect to colours and how we cannot judge them in isolation. Moss green will work for you if you bring in a cool shade like white or ink blue against your skin at the same time. Have fun experimenting with new colours!

I am dark...dark brown hair and eyes. I have Italian and French Canadian blood. My skin used to be quite olive as a kid... but not so much anymore. I can't tolerate any sun anymore. I don't burn--I am not in it long enough to burn. It's almost like I have an allergic reaction to strong sun rays--I break out in a rash on any area that is exposed I definately tend towards olive complexion, but I'm a little yellow and pink as well--if that's even possible.

A coworker had on a lovely moss green cardigan sweater with a crisp white blouse underneath. She has a very similar complexion to me....I was wondering how she could wear that color so well, and I just now realized it was the white blouse that made it work on her. I'll have to keep that in mind.

True Red, Blues that range from pale to ocean, and medium pink. Those are the colors I wear that receive the most compliments anyway.

I love lime green and bright candy orange. Both of those colors tend to make me look like I have the flu. I also love double breasted jackets and dresses, but can't wear them.

I can't imagine that you don’t look good in turquoise Mayapple and Antje made a super suggestion. Pop a neutral jacket over it ( if that’s possible) and you'll have toned down the colour even further.

You raise an interesting point Nicole and I occasionally have clients who are drawn to colours that do not work for them. The “black rut” is another common problem though. Black is not the only neutral and it can look harsh and drab if one wears it all the time. Which colours are you drawn to that don’t not look good?

I too am sometimes drawn to styles that I do not look good in but manage to steer away and admire them on people who do. I suspect that many of us feel this way at some point.

I also think our coloring changes as we age and as we go thru different seasons of the year, or even expermient with a new hair color or highlighting effect.

I do feel drawn to colors (nd styles) that I don't look good in though. Does anyone else have this problem?

One trick for "toning down" a color that on its own might be too harsh or unflattering is to wear a scarf that picks up the color from the sweater but mixes it with colors that you know are flattering to your face and that you like.

Well the reason I ask is because I did try something new recently and I can't decide if I like it or not. I fell in love with a very bright, vivid turquoise sweater yesterday at Zara but I'm not really sure if it suits me or not. I'm not used to seeing myself in it and I tend to shy away from greenish and bluish hues because they make me look sick. I just thought since this was such a warm, bright blue it might work.

While I feel that there is some truth to the whole “complexion season thing”, I don’t like to take it too seriously. Colours cannot be seen in isolation. Pale skinned people generally look awful in tan, but wear the right tan with black and red and we’re in business. So you can be a mix of all the seasons. There are colours that people look good in when they wear them on their own, and there are colours that look great when they are worn with other colours, or not near the face.

Just like you tend towards a body type, you tend towards a colour spectrum. But there are variances and exceptions to the rule. So I’ve just complicated the whole colour – complexion thing and I apologize. Experimentation and constantly trying something new. That’s my best advice.

I saw that while registering, Nicole, but it still didn't really help. If anything, it confused me more. There is some of column A and column B, which is why I'm wondering if I'm teetering between two seasons.

Mayapple....There was a link at myshape.com that helped you determine your season. I think to find it, you have to start to register online, and then step two asks you some questions about your person preferences. With in that area, there's a tiny link that helps you determine your color chart.

I remember there was a topic on this somewhere but I can't find it now. I have a hard time determining what colors suit me and even after reading for a solid half hour about seasonal complexions, I still have no idea what I am. I think I'm a winter, but there are some Autumn characteristics that also seem to apply to me. Is it possible to be both?
