Joy - good point. I’ll measure pre/post wash and let you know.

JenniNZ - no idea how true this is, but a quick search says Tank top refers to swimming clothes from the early 1900’s, and this link says singlet has been in use much longer: https://www.fleetfeetalbany.co.....ld-we-care

Love nr 2. My curent find is
https://www.zara.com/hu/en/str.....v2=1180422

Love it is stretchy, has a good length and is doppelt fabric on the bust, so substantial there enough for a better hold:-). There are colors and prints, too.

Second one out-of-sight better- smoother and thicker, more substantial. I find that sort of thing so important.
Looks fine to wear alone if very hot!
BTW that is what I would call a "singlet", though I have started to try to call them tanks on the forum. Singlet is an old fashioned British word that got used in NZ in my childhood I think. Why are they called tank tops?- from the Army?

Great choice. The Amazon Essentials looks so sleek, and the fit is great. It looks just right under your red top. It's useful to see the side-by-side comparison.

I was thinking the Daily Ritual is a nice choice for someone who wants all cotton. It's not that easy to find, especially at that price.

From a purely objective eye (I don't wear layering tanks or camis - ever) , I agree with your assessment. The second one looks 100% better. Pretty Halogen wrap top on you too - I remember admiring it in a post where you showed it as a find....

Pay attention to the length and if they shrink in the laundry. I also wear a tank or cami daily...an under layer. I have bought Target's in the past. They are cheap and long enough. But they seem to have mostly ribbed knits right now that I do not care for. So I will watch this thread for ideas.

Runcarla, I haven't tried Lands End for tanks. Somehow I always forget about them, even though I'm usually pleased with what I order from them. Totally agree on exposed bra straps!

Totally agree with your choice. Have you ever worn Lands' End tanks? I like tanks under button downs and by themselves in hot weather. LE states theirs keeps bra straps hidden. I have a 'poison eye' for exposed bra straps.

After the essentials discussion, I decided it was time to retire some tank tops, and replace. I don’t wear tanks stand-alone, these are purely layering pieces for me. So I decided to try Amazon Wardrobe and compare 2 types: Amazon Essentials vs Daily Ritual. Both are sold in 2-packs, and I ordered the same size in both.

Photo 1- Daily Ritual ($18). 100% supima cotton. Scoop neck in front, straight in the back. Laid flat, it’s 2 inches wider in the body than the Amazon, and arm curve is more straight. Feels more like wearing a t-shirt, and is very thin.

Photo2- Amazon essentials ($14). Scoop front and back, 58% cotton, 39% modal, 3% elastane. Although the scoop front is cut almost the same as the Daily Ritual, it sits about 1/2 inch lower. Feels more substantial, and as you can see, fits better to my curves.

Photo3- Amazon essentials under a wrap top (Halogen).

There isn’t a huge cost difference but this is the kind of purchase where if I don’t get it right it really bugs me - I don’t like futzing with layering tops. I’m keeping the Amazon essential, as I the think the weight and fit is better,

Thanks for looking - and letting me workout my thoughts in print!
