My daughter has some patent shoes (cheap ones). She has only had them a few months and has kicked off all the surface of the toes!
You can't polish patent can you?

I asked about patent boots before and Angie indeed said that they are great in the rain. I have yet to test it

I would only wear suede shoes in completely dry weather. I think you can have suede treated but I've never tried that. La Canadienne makes suede boots that are advertised as waterproof, and Angie had said that it really works - but again, no firsthand experience. I guess I am not much help!

I think recently Angie replied to another boot post that patent does just fine in wet weather.

The regular tanned leather can be conditioned to be water resistant or waterproof. There are many products to clean and condition and keep it looking good through alot of use.
There is a spray to put on suede to help keep it cleaner and from getting water damage but I wouldn't trust it like you say for building snowmen.
I don't know anything about patent leather. How do they make patent leather? It looks like vinyl doesn't it?
I have not been big on patent or suede in the past, but since reading YLF I am appreciating their texture. I bought my first cracked patent bag this year. I enjoy it and get compliments on it so it feels quite natural, not to dressy.
I am just starting to fall in love with suede boots. Happylife showed a picture of herself in a blue dress with grey suede boots and the texture of the grey suede just flew of the page for me. Thanks Happylife!

Another boot question I've been wondering..

What are the pros and cons of various boot finishes or types? (patent, suede, flat leather). I think your not suppossed to get the suede wet? Can the others withstand a bit of snow and water? (I won't be building a snowman in them or anything!)
Also are there different things that must be done to care for each type?

Thanks!
