I have strayed into take a chance territory, but only a few times. When I was very pregnant with my first child, I bought a teeny bikini as incentive to lose the baby weight. It worked!

If the SA thinks they are too loose, it may not even be weight. It might be
something to do with the crotch positioned too low, for example, or the
rise not being deep enough. Both those situations cause pulling/wrinkles
and are equally restrictive and uncomfortable. Plus there are 2 separate seams there that cross and create "compartments", if you will. I haven't
altered the saddle seam much (that's the one that runs up the inside of your thigh, across and then down the inside of your other thigh (the inseam, at
its midpoint area). But I have given myself more room in the vertical rise
many times and that's an easy alteration. Have you sat down in these pants
to see what's what? People expand all over when they sit and it should tell
you where you need the room.

I am glad to see I am not alone.
The pants are actually quite comfortable but don't quite lay right. I have been slowly losing weight the last few months. I think I have dropped 5 lbs since mid June and I do want to lose another 8 or so. I have 13 months until our wedding and would like to be in between the weight I prefer and the weight my doctor suggested.

I also like my pants to be quite roomy. I think they drape better. The SA thought they were a bit too loose but I think she was tired.

I tried them on with a longer white shirt (that I bought too) that has metal points on the collar and metal buttons on the cuffs and they looked good so even if I don't success (which I plan on doing) then they are very wearable with a longer top.

I picked up my package from the Bay with the Same Edelman black caged sandals and am test wearing them now. The strap across the toes fees a touch snug which is weird because I have flat thin feet. I will wear them around the house and hope they work because I need them for one of Angie's ensembles.

ETA: I have 30 days to return the pants so can see how the next three weeks go.

I just don't do this anymore. I've been burned a few times because how my body gains and loses weight is not always so consistent. I lose 5 lbs and it comes off my midsection, not my hips, sigh.

But I hope the pants work out for you! They sound lovely.

I did this once or twice when I was younger, and other comments are correct that when I lost the weight I didn't lose it in the way that I had expected and the item usually did not look the way I wanted it to anyway. I haven't done this in many years now. I truly believe in buying for the body you have NOW.

But Laura is right in that 3-4 pounds (for me, at least) can be the difference between weighing myself in the morning vs at night, or times in my cycle, or whether I've had a lot of salt or coffee. It isn't "real" weight unless my mean point goes down.

I've done this successfully when I've been actively in the middle of losing a fair bit of weight, like last year. If I hadn't I would have run out of clothes before I'd have time to get more. But I try not to do it when I'm not trying to lose, because it ends in frustration and wasted money.

Then again, if it's truly only 3-4 pounds you think you need to lose, that for me is the variation between different parts of my monthly cycle, or between working out 3-4 times a week or 1-2. It's more about muscle vs fat and water retention than any actual loss on the scale, actually. I know that depends on the person, though.

I've done this kind of accidentally - usually a non returnable eBay item snapped up cheap. It doesn't really fit, but I hold on to it, trying to make it work. Then, about a year later I give in and cull it. :)
I do stay pretty consistently the same size within an inch or so and try and make sure my clothes fit right at the time of purchase.

Hahahaaaaa Dianthus -- "the eighth deadly sin". Funny! :-)

I've never done this, though. The only time I've bought clothes in a size that didn't fit yet was when I was pregnant, and I was buying bigger clothes that my belly would expand to fill.

Comfort is way too big of a factor to me in my clothes so I won't buy anything that doesn't immediately feel comfortable. But I prefer a looser fit.

I have did that also in the past, but Angie is right. My past experience tells me the same: when we loose weight the piece may not fit properly, sometimes we loose weight on other parts of the body and not on the one we want, sometimes we loose weight and the fit is not as expected.

Angie's rule is to buy for the body you have now and I think it is a wise one. Personally if I truly love the pants I would want to wear them NOW so I would size up and have them altered for a perfect fit rather than buying in a hope of losing weight...
...unless you have a proven record of this working for you - do you?

The pants sound cute. I guess the thing to ask yourself is whether you are trying or really want to lose 3-4 lbs. how will that make all of your other clothes fit?. I agree with Kimberly that you don't really want clothes in your closet that make you feel bad about yourself.

Ack, Dianthus, I am so sure those must be gorgeous pants. They would appeal to me, too. And I hear Beth Ann in the wings....

For me the chances I take are not much related to potential, hoped-for or dreaded body changes. More to occasions. As in I might "take a chance" that I will get a dress up occasion, and then...no such occasions appear. For years.

I have also taken chances on footwear working. Like when the SA swears up and down that all I need is a forefoot pad or a heel grip and those shoes will work perfectly. The reality, on my foot? NOT!! But if I love the shoe enough, I can be persuaded. Which in my case has always turned out to be a mistake.

We had tickets for Wicked last night and had a few hours to kill to avoid going home in between work and the show. It was the perfect time to go try the red version of the slim pants for fall. I got a bit carried away and tried on half the store - well not quite but you get the idea.

Anyway, I saw a woman wearing a lovely pair of wide leg trousers a few weeks ago and then Angie posted about wide-legged pants a few days later. I love the look and feel of a pair of wide legged high-waisted pants and haven't seen anything like that in ages. I found a pair in a light navy at the store last night and had to try them. The SA thought they looked a bit too loose as there was a bit of extra fabric in the crotch area. I thought it was just a tiny bit of pull and that they would look great

here comes the sin part

after I lose another 3-4 pounds so that they fall straight. Yes, I bought them even though they weren't perfect. But, but, but, they have angled snaps down the side that are reminiscent of the sailor pants of past decades and looked so Katherine Hepburn classic to my eye.

Am I alone here? Or do you sometimes just take a chance?
