If you like your converse but they just don't have enough padding or support, you could always try the Jack Purcell style. They have a similar look, but they have a thick, athletic shoe like insole with better cushioning that is also removable, so it could be replaced with something even more supportive like an orthotic or OTC arch-support insole.

I walk everywhere on nearly a day to day basis, and I found that Vans are really comfortable for walking as opposed to Converse as they have way more padding at the sole. Mine are actually a half size too big but it seems to work better (for me)-- they're still tight enough in the right areas without slipping or rubbing raw. And they come in the same array of colors as Converse.

Can anyone recommend comfortable walking shoes for a trip to San Francisco? Anything which isn't all black, is versatile, and comes in a size 11. I have some flat sneakers like converse and pumas but they won't cut it for walking long distances and hurt my feet. I like the look of brown or blue sneakers with pants a lot better than black.
