Liz, I think other people have problems with those sockettes, too, maybe if they have low volume feet or tiny feet in general, but for me (and for my mom, too) it is a nightmare to keep them on. My heels also don't "bump out" much at the back but go straight down, which might be another problem.

My feet don't have bunions and aren't wide, but the forefoot is definitely wider than the back.

I hate socks, too, and really like the months I can go without them. So I totally understand, and also the frustrations of digging around trying ineffectually to fix the darn little no-show sock, which has balled up under the forefoot and twisted into a torture device!

I also get stubborn about the bandaids, too, and sometimes they just don't work or they fall off if it is humid, or you get them in the wrong place.

I don't know if you have found these. They are super expensive but really surprisingly good: https://www.band-aid.com/advan.....es-6-count

And these ones are also really good: https://www.healthsnap.ca/elas.....t?gclid=Cj

I seem to like one for one situation and one for another but now I can't remember which is which. I would get a couple of packages of each of these and have them on hand along with the body glide. And then just go with the best fitting shoe you can find and the best no-show sock you can find and hope for the best. But bring your extra shoes!!

Yes, Suz! You just told the story of my life. I have narrow heels, but not really narrow feet due to bunions on the front of my feet. I totally do the preemptive bandaid thing, but sometimes am very stubborn and decide to try to forego them. That never ends well. I know I should just wear socks, but I hate them except with running shoes or in the winter. I will try to be smart about my upcoming trip and do what needs to be done.

ETA: I never thought about my narrow heels being the reason the no-show socks won't stay on!

Liz, do you have narrow heels? I do, and blisters are -- I hate to say it -- an absolute fact of life for me. In that, it is a rare, a very rare closed shoe -- that does not produce them on the first few wears. I could probably count the times I've found that shoe on the fingers of one hand.

Sandals are better, even sandals with closed heels, perhaps because the straps tend to keep my foot in place a bit better than even a lace up shoe can. Booties are also better than regular shoes and rarely produce blisters unless I don't wear socks with them.

My tricks to deal with this are the following:

Wear bandaids or blister bandaids pre-emptively -- i.e. put them on before even the first wear of the shoes.

Use body glide (but not where you want to put the blister bandaid on the heel -- until the shoes are broken in enough to stop wearing bandaids.)

Do not rely on one pair of shoes for travel where you will be walking a lot. I know it goes against all accepted travel lore, but the more shoes the better if you plan to walk!! I bring 4 different shoes or more on almost any trip over a couple of days. A change is as good as a rest and if you have blisters can mean the difference between continued fun or pure misery.

Wear socks where you can. My heels are so narrow that those little sockettes always come off (even the ones with grippers) but sometimes I can get them to stay on for a little while.

Hi Liz, have you tried Geox? I have a pair and they are lovely - supportive, smart, black with white sole, and they go in the washing machine on a super gentle wash and come out with gleaming soles again! I have reasonably fussy feet but can walk miles in these if needed.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I'm not totally desperate, because I can always wear running shoes, even though they don't make me feel too fab.

Kristin, the Flyknits look like a strong contender.

And I think there is an Ecco store in one of the malls near me, so I will have to pop in and see what they have.

The Nike Flyknits are, hands down, my most comfortable sneaker. They are knit material that feel like socks, so it's like wearing socks with sneaker soles. They are light on the feet, too. I highly, highly recommend them!

I have wide, high volume feet. I ordered these through the Nike website and was able to purchase a Wide size, and customize the color, too.

Good luck and have a great vacation!

If blisters are your main concern, make sure you take moleskin or other foot protectors, along with body glide. Or maybe for the trip, just stick to shoes that you've already broken in and know are blister-safe?

I pretty much only wear Superga. I think they are slighty wider but can be laced so they stay on your feet really well. I have 6 pair of them in all different colors. I have a really high arch and have never had any trouble. I have worn them on all day shopping trips where I have to do a lot of walking. However, they are quite heavy compared to many other sneakers.

Feet are very individual. I have walked a lot in Tretorns T56 with an insert. You can also look for very low cut socks (sorry, can't think of the name, but some are made by Smartwool, I think) to increase your options. Some Keds are more supportive than others, so they may work, too.

All feet are different of course, but I am loving my Cole Haan ZeroGrands. Have walked entire days in them, during city trips, days at amusement parks etc.
The light grey suede is low contrast and works well with most of my outfits. I don't see that colour in suede anymore on the Nordstrom website, but the second pair below is a similar shade.

I have extremely fussy feet and never met a "fashion" sneaker I didn't have to put orthotics in until I found the Onitsuka Tiger. There is great arch support in these and I can walk all day. They are my go-to for sightseeing where I want to look nice. They come in a million color combos as well. link to amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Onitsuk.....8&

Give the Converse All Star II a try. They look similar to classic Chuck's, but have a running shoe insole inside.

Suggestions needed!

I tried the Ecco Soft VII, and they were heavenly on my feet, but I just couldn't get with any of the colorways. They are all too high contrast for my taste. I really tried to like the white ones, but I think white sneakers just aren't my style. If only they came in a gray, beige, or taupe situation.

I also have the Josef Seibel's in grigio. Love the look, but they give me all kinds of blisters if I do any serious walking. Help! I'm leaving in 2 weeks for vacation.
