I wear more or less ath-leisure clothing when my lupus flares up. Sometimes I will even buy some nicer looking ath-leisure if I need to leave the house, but am in too much pain to wear anything constricting.

I'm another one on team sweats/joggers when sick. And I add in a pashmina or warm scarf - there's something about having something snuggly around my shoulders that is soothing.

The comments about abdominal surgery triggered a memory for me. DH had to have surgery about 10 years ago, and I went out and bought him pajama sets with loose drawstring waists. He couldn't understand why, until post-surgery - he lived in those things for 4 weeks!

I don't have a "sick capsule", and simply wear extra comfy clothes when I'm ill or under the weather. Very occasionally, like Shevia, I wear my loungewear during the day..........but can't remember when that last happened?

Windchime, please stay safe and healthy!

It truly depends on what kind of sick it is. If it's yarfing, I wear comfy "chores" clothes that I don't care about. If it's cold/flu, I wear luxe casual comfort clothes like your 10 year old joggers. The key in either case is comfort, because I don't want to deal with any stiffness or constriction or fidgety nonsense when I'm not feeling well to begin with.

Just read through the rest of the responses. Like Deborah and Janet, I found that abdominal surgery required different clothing. I didn’t want anything that touched my waist, so I got these dresses, which each are gentle on my waist in their own way. After that, I put them away for a while, but now I enjoy wearing them again.

Joy and Rachylou, we are glad you are still here! Joy, the attitudes some have shown towards the elderly in relation to Covid are shocking.

I'd just wear my normal sleeping joggers and fleece tops in quiet black + furry socks (not necessarily black). Though I wear a lot of color out in the world, black feels restful and comforting at home! Knock on wood maybe the masks, social distancing, working from home, hand washing will help me avoid the flu as well as Covid?

It really would depend though because sometimes for more serious health problems, things that open in front and don't require raising the arms are best.

Thanks for reminding me that I haven’t been sick for a long time, years. When I’m not doing great as with my recent sprained ankle, I’ll wear yoga pants, most comfortable bra, and an oversized top. But I might wear that on a lazy day.

Hope I haven’t jinxed myself. Mostly staying home helps.

When I am sick at home, during the cold months I rely on an old wool or merino jumper, thick warm socks and thermal leggings.

If I would be unwell during the summer, I have a loungewear dress that I could use but wouldn't be that comfortable hence I am prioritizing the summer pieces.

This year, I am planning to buy pieces that I can use when sick or at the hospital during the hot weather (pjs, kimono robe, lose linen pieces).

Next year I will probably focus on the cold weather!

Loungewear for me has to be super comfy, especially around the waist since I can't stand any constriction there. It's been a while since I've been sick - knock on wood - and hopefully won't be any time soon!

I’ve been very fortunate in my life to have not dealt with much sickness (I can laugh now about getting chicken pox just in time to go on my first real adult vacation when I was 22 — the perils of working in a school, as I got strep, chicken pox, and pinkeye all in the first year, for the first time in my life!). When I don’t feel well, I will just wear my usual pajamas or loungewear — whatever works for that season.

Like Deborah, when I had abdominal surgery 7 years ago, I made sure I had a small capsule of loose elastic and drawstring waist pants, loose dress, and comfortable underwear for the weeks of my recovery. I remember attending a semi formal benefit dinner with my husband only two weeks after, and managed a nice skirt (stretchy waist), top, and lace blazer for the event. He was impressed I even chose to go!

Interesting topic, Windchime. Generally I get sick in Winter (flu) so I look for comfort and warmth. My capsule is cotton tee, wollen cardigan, sweatpants, socks and warm footwear. I prefer an old pair of rubber sole shoes rather then slippers (cold house, icy tile floor).Like you, I have a very old pair of sweatpants and a very old cardigan that are definitely battered, but I have not the least intention to let them go!

This is a great topic. I think wearing comfy clothes and ones that don't look too bad when we are ill can actually help us feel more positive and provide an element of comfort.

10 years ago when I had a surgery, I had to take 6 weeks off to recover. I recall putting together a small capsule of black jersey pieces.. elasticised pants, loose tops, a draped dress that I wore day in day out for 6 weeks. It meant not only was I super comfy but I looked 'put together' when people called in. It's a very practical idea.

It really was a very rude experience!

I know a young man who got covid... he’s not recovered even tho he’s recovered. Tachycardia, fatigue... it’s been months.

Rachylou, that sounds awful. If I get Covid I can imagine that I will be written off as I should just die now. It sounds like one does not fully recover.
