I tend to not duplicate colors but sometimes regret it because it is easier to have various functions that still go with the same footwear. My super warm puffer is navy and I prefer black but I had a lighter weight puffer in black so I though I should change colors. I do wear it (a lot in this weather!) but don't feel as me as I would if it were black. Not that all my outerwear should be black but it is definitely the easiest color for coats for me. I need to think about this habit I have of overthinking colors.

While I don’t have many duplicate colors of coats, other than black, I have a puffer vest that I love in 7 different colors. I am fond of vests because they keep my core warm and my arms unencumbered. So I guess the short answer for me is yes, duplicates are great!

Like LJP, I have olive green coats, jackets, and vests for all temperature ranges. Branched out into one gold colored long vest, and a gold canvas jacket. All gloves and hats go with all outerwear.
So yes, happy to join the color drenching group!
Saves a lot of time and energy when trying to leave the house in a hurry.

Thanks all! I did like this style of puffer, and I will do an evaluation if I will be happy with this colour or best to go for something else. I do wear a range of colours which has both advantages and disadvantages....

In my former work life I was a self described coat and jacket nut . I had iterations of everything . And happily stuck to just a few colours as many here have already said . I have versions of every bit of outwear in olive green and almost everything in black . I say go for it !

I say so go for it. I have a short puffer, a faux suede moto jacket, and a wool coat all in burgundy, and I wear them all. (The "find" photo for the moto jacket is a different color than the one I own.)

I also have not one, but two black velvet puffer jackets as well as multiple other black jackets and coats.

Yes, for sure -- especially in my core neutrals (navy, denim, grey, white) and/ or in a colour I love (red).

You can see from the below that these fill different functions....a short red casual puffer/ a dressier knee length coat in red; an oyster puffer and oyster raincoat; short and long navy wool coats; navy puffer (long) and lighter navy jacket (short); white winter raincoat, white puffer.

I have outlier coats, too, e.g. my lilac wool coat. But the neutral for me coats are easy to mix and match into outfits.

"Would you duplicate jackets in a similar colour when holding different functions?"

ABSOLUTELY! Yes, by a billion percent.

Yes, I've often duplicated the colour of my jackets and coats. My climate is so varied it makes total sense as they often serve different functions and seasons.

You did mention that puffers that you actually like can be quite hard to find, but now that you've found one, are you mostly concerned that you don't really need it? I see that the puffer jacket in question is cropped and the other one you have is a much longer length. To me, they might serve the same purpose but they are very different style wise and this new one probably would function quite nicely for the purposes you intended. If you do get it, would it actually end your search for such an item? On the other hand if you don't buy it, will you regret passing it up?

I gave this quite a bit of thought Sal. In my current climate I would duplicate the same colour for different weights and lengths. I wear a jacket for nine months of the year and it is necessary to have a variety. If I was in Johannesburg still I would not duplicate colours because jackets are only worn for three months of the year and the weights do not really need to differ much, so I would rather have different colours. Those two seem quite similar in casualness level too to my eye. I'm curious if, and why your twill coat doesn't fulfil the more dressy need requirements? Is it also the same colour? That colour is definitely very good for you!

I'd get the fun color in jacket since we wear outwear longer . About 2 years ago I've got dark green puffer ( with bit of shine ) and donated the steel grey one ( sad color on me ). Would definitely duplicate it in purple, or navy, or burgundy if I could.

Thanks Goldenpig, JAileen and Carol. In some ways it is easier as potentially shoes and pants will go with both.

I don't have as extensive a coat/jacket collection as most on the forum because our climate is milder.

Attached is anything that I might consider wearing instead of the puffer, along with the other puffer (bright purple) and the puffer vest (black).

I am going to pause and think of the weekend capsule to see what colour might serve me best..... I did like this one and find puffers that I like quite hard to find...

I would get whatever color you want and is practical, since you will not be wearing it with the other coat. The short one you picture, I think that's what you are interested in, is cute. Reminds me of Carhartt.

I have a puffer, a Carhartt winter jacket, a dress jacket, and a thin jacket all in black. I guess that is because I keep coats and jackets a long time, so black is practical.

Yes, of course. For gear, it’s all about function. I do try to stick to my preferred colors, so I have several dark blue jackets, for example. I have a dark blue monster down coat that does not take the place of my dark blue Nanopuff jacket. One is lightweight and the other is for serious cold.

Yes I totally would get another jacket in a similar color, especially if they're for different functions. If you have a favorite color, why wouldn't you get another jacket in your favorite color instead of a color you like less? I have a burgundy trench coat but that didn't stop me from buying a burgundy leather jacket. I have plenty of burgundy outfits and will wear both of them. (Maybe I need a burgundy puffer too, LOL!) I also am fine with duplicating a jacket or other clothing item I like in multiple colors, like burgundy and black, so there's that too. Do what works for you and makes you happy!

Hi All

I tried on the below Patagonia puffer jacket yesterday (in the photos) and liked it, but did not buy it.

I am looking for a new puffer this year - I have a puffer vest (black with a work logo) and a puffer that I can wear for walks. So I want something a bit more stylish for weekends out of town, or wearing with jeans etc or for travel.

I have the below Columbia jacket which is very warm (has a puffer liner that can be taken out, and mostly is for our climate)

Would you duplicate jackets in a similar colour when holding different functions?

I am pausing for a week or two as I won't need anything for a couple of months - and there will always be another jacket - but I am still thinking about it.
