...and aqua is lighter than turquoise--

If you were mixing paint, teal would be more parts green to less parts blue. Turquios would be more parts blue to less parts green. Aqua would be Turquois with some white added into the mix.

Quite right. Teal is “a green” and turquoise is “a blue”.

I think teal is greener and darker than turquoise.

Teal is a darker color than turquoise, and has more green in it I believe. Aqua to me is like the bluest water.

oh, the link didn't work very well - if you click on the link as is, click on the first option - "teal - (color)". then go to the bottom of that page for the chart.

Sarah,
I hear you on the confusion of the colors! They are often used interchangeably and difficult to distinguish with mere words.

If you go toward the bottom of this link, there's a color chart that has the three colors you mentioned (along with a bunch of other variations):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teal_(color)

Hope that helps!

What is the difference between teal and turquoise? I’ve always used the two color names synonymously, but I hear they are different. Can anyone explain the difference? Pictures would help. And just to add more confusion, I’ll add aqua into the mix. How does it relate to these two colors? Just curious.
