Nancy, you sound so positive about your color revelation! I love what you said about the analysis giving you permission to focus on the colors that excite you and that work so well for you. I hope this process continues to be a fun exploration!

All your new brights are delicious, and sophisticated, Nancy, can't wait to see them on you! Much agree, it's time to brighten up, if you felt so, but still love the old neutrals which survived the color analysis:-)

Thanks for your encouragement, everyone. It really feels like a whole new world just opened up to me...and I've been in need of something new. I still love neutrals, and I don't see myself dressing in brights from head to toe every day, but just knowing that these lovely colors are available and suited to me is liberating. I'm free to incorporate/embrace them as I see fit while still keeping some of my old favorites (I love my cognac!).

Alicat, hello fellow Spring!

Denise, color as a religious experience...I love it!

Adelfa, I look forward to finding my frequency colors. Thanks for sharing your cobalt blue story. :)

dakota, I had mine done using the Sci/Art method of color analysis. It breaks the old seasonal color analysis into 12 distinct division, with three categories for each season. I found my color analyst through this website: http://12blueprints.com

Lantana, we'll see about the home. Right now, my home is a restful cozy place with lots of sage green, brick, and gold. Autumn colors!

CB, absolutely! I know there is a danger of taking these guidelines too much to heart, letting them rule you, and taking the fun out of dressing. But for me it's not been that at all. It's given me exactly what you said: permission. Permission to get rid of dark colors that were bringing me down and to open my mind up to new possibilities.

Nancy, I just love the freedom and joy you are experiencing during this process. Here is a color story. Cobalt blue is my favorite color, and last year I wore a cobalt blue maxi skirt to work on casual Friday. One of our Agency's more progressive/alternative type therapists said to me, "That color looks like it's vibrating to your own personal frequency."

Not that I believe in frequencies, but that remark intrigued me. Because since the color was away from my face, it wasn't even making me look radiant or anything. It was just looking like it was intensely me. That is the gift that just the right color can give. So excited for you!

Yes I remember going through this. It can be quite overwhelming can't it? Try and wear your best colours near your face if you can and it will be easier. Yes the makeup will make a lot of difference even just the right lip colour.

Nancy, as I began to read your post, I feared you were throwing the baby out with the bathwater and taking this analysis too seriously. Then I kept reading and realized how happy and energized you sound. Although this analysis caused you to get rid of many familiar and much used colors, it actually seems that it actually gave you permission to do that. You don't sound forced, if you know what I mean. It let you shake off some physical and mental baggage. the butterfly analogy is perfect. Here's to brights, happiness, and health for you and yours!

Thanks for the suggestion on how to start focusing in on my neutrals, Diane. It's so funny how the neutrals are suddenly my problem area when I've practically lived in neutrals for the past few years!

As for why I didn't wear coral and salmon....that's a very good question! I think a lot of psychology was affecting my wardrobe. I've always been color-phobic, not wanting to draw too much attention to myself (a lesson imprinted from childhood) combined with wanting to be taken seriously (an attitude I adopted in my 20s and 30s, when I looked very young for my age). So, those are two reasons.

I also think the neutral, dark, muted colors I've been clinging to lately have made me feel "safe" as my husband continues to deal with ongoing medical problems. Looking back, I can see where my wardrobe began to become much more muted and dark over the past 18 months, the period in which he's been either acutely ill or recovering. It's very interesting.

It sounds like you are slowly getting there Nancy. I have to say though that I am a soft Autumn which is what you thought you were and I was surprised you didn't wear coral and salmon before, as I have salmon, blush- pink(which is quite a bright shade), mint and emerald in my swatches and I wear them a lot. I know browns and olives are all there too yet when I had my colours done the consultant said I looked better in brighter, lighter shades so I probably wear the colours that cross over to other seasons more. I choose lots of the lighter shades from my 42 colours to have by my face and darker shades in bottoms or I wear a light scarf if I have a darker top.
You could try a 'statement neutral' which I started a thread on a few days ago : http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....raldiscuss A shade that you wouldn't normally think of as a neutral but might go with a lot of your other shades could become an everyday neutral for you.

It's been almost two weeks since I had my colors analyzed and discovered that I am a Bright Spring (clear, bright, warm, light) and not (as I'd convinced myself) a Soft Autumn (soft, muted, dusty, dark). Talk about a turnaround! Up is down, down is up. All the colors I thought were my best (olive, burgundy, browns) are actually my worst. And the colors I'd steadfastly avoided (pinks, tomato red, bright greens and blues) are actually my best. Huh.

After I got over my initial shock, I tried wearing some brights as well as brighter makeup and realized that I actually do look better in bright, clear, high-contrast colors. Most amazing has been how much the right makeup (blush, foundation, lip color) can make a difference in your appearance. My face is so much younger and softer looking in my new makeup. (I wish I could share the before/after shot from my session, but I haven't been able to upload it here) I also have to say that my closet is a brighter and happier place without all the dark, muddy pieces. I actually feel a little jolt of happiness when I open the doors and see the bright, clear colors. :)

So, to work! I've spent the past two weekends sorting through my closet, weeding out the muddiest and dustiest colors and pulling the brights to the front. I actually own some brights and a few suitable neutrals, so I won't have to completely overhaul my wardrobe. Of course, I can't realistically get rid of everything that doesn't match the color swatches, so I'm holding onto some less-than-perfect colors--some for practicality's sake (black, white, navy) and others out of love for the color (cognac, warm taupe, dark teal).

Angie's recent post on how to wear your worst colors couldn't have come at a better time as I sort through my clothes and try to make my less-than-perfect colors fit into my new Bright Spring colorscape. Right now my closet is a mashup of bright and muted colors, and I'm not exactly sure what will work together going forward. Here's where things stand:

Colors I purged
Olive (except for a jacket and pair of pants)
Burgundy
Dusty medium blue

Colors I'm hanging onto for now although they're not in my palette
Black
White
Navy (one blouse, one tee)
Cognac
Warm taupe (one sweater, one dress, one jacket)
Chocolate brown (one sweater, one dress)
Dark Teal (two blouses)
Denim blue

Bright colors from my new palette that I'm focusing on
Bright yellows (marigold, mustard, saffron, mango)
Clear reds (watermelon, tomato red)
Light clear corals (salmon)
Bright blues (light teal, turquoise)

It's actually been easier to choose the bright colors I want from my new palette than it has been to identify the new neutrals I want to incorporate. My "best" neutrals vary from ivory to charcoal, with some odd and seemingly disparate colors in between. It's going to take some experimenting to decide which neutrals will form my new core.

Right now, the only neutrals I'm certain of are eggshell/ivory and denim. And of course, black has to stay because it's just so useful!

I know this is rambling. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and muddled...but excited, too! Thanks for listening as I start to sort this out. :)

#1 - my yellows/golds
#2 - my corals/reds
#3-4 - my blues
#5 - my neutrals

#6 - yellows in my closet

#7 - corals/reds in my closet

#8-9 - blues in my closet

#10 - ivory/eggshell in my closet

#11 - cognac (not in my palette)

#12 - warm taupe (not in my palette)

#13 - dark teal (not in my palette)
