I had my colors done in the '80s when it was a *thing*. I also had my husband do this because I do most of his clothes shopping and since his coloring is different from mine, I wasn't clear on what would look best on him and he doesn't really have the patience to try much on.

I think most women have a decent sense of what colors look really good on them. I had my colors done to get guidance on beiges and other difficult shades/colors. It was also good to understand that some colors work for me but act as neutrals since they are low energy for my particular coloring. For me, that includes gem colors like forest green and sapphire.

There are many ways to slice and dice style, and color is only one of them. Some people are intuitively better at what flatters them than others. Or if you have favorite colors that don't look good next to your face, you can always wear them on your bottom half or as accessories like footwear and bags. Also, a change in hair color can change what colors work. Maybe your hair color has changed since you were a little girl?

I have found color analysis useful in having a cohesive wardrobe with colors that are easy to mix and match and that go well with my personal coloring. Having a color palette also saves me $ because I don't buy things that I know I don't look great in and that don't go with what I already have.

I think it would be quite fun to have done but I would be more tempted to start with the hair style and colour and bra fitting, as chewyspaghetti said. And make up probably.

Other than help one be more aware of colors and how you look and feel in them, I don't think it is worth spending money for consultation, but it is an individual thing. I have had color consultants try to find my season at meetings and such, but none have been able to find what I am. Pone time there were two of them and they agreed to disagree on my colors. I don't think this can be one-size-fits-all. There are too many variables.
You may have the best success trying to decide if warm or cool colors favor you most of the time.

It seems to be popular. I belong to a group that does colour and Kibbe. I have had my colour analysis done 3 times. Why stop at once? I am a bit of a nut when it comes to something I am interested in. I have always worn Autumn colours and looked good in them so surprise I am an Autumn.
I have Spring/Autumn colouring. My hair was reddish blonde when I was younger and got blonder as I got older.

I agree with what the others have said....I think there can be advantages if you don't have a good eye, have coloured hair, or want to combine your wardrobe colours into capsules.

I had mine done in the 1980s too - I haven't had them done since, but think it was correct (Spring). I find it gives me some guidance but I don't stick to it entirely.

I think a good stylist should have an idea about colours that suit you, whatever methods they choose. Have fun - something I would love to do one day.

Definitely still a thing -- though today the 4-season system is considered somewhat outdated, and most people who are into PCA will recommend you see someone who does 12 or 16-season analysis. I'm part of an online style group where color and Kibbe types are both big points of discussion, and a lot of people find those two approaches very helpful in coming up with a set of criteria to shop with.

I've never been draped, and I don't know that I ever will. I have a pretty typical winter complexion (high contrast, ivory skin, blue eyes, dark hair, deeply pigmented lips) and I'm very fond of winter colors (though I do cheat into summer colors, especially in the summer months), so I just eyeball it and go with what I like.

I think, for some people, just having the fan or swatch book with "your" colors in it can be a good tool to take shopping, and helps curb impulse purchases. If the shirt doesn't match the fan, back on the rack it goes!

Personally, at least for me, getting fit/silhouette exactly right is, in general, more important than getting the color spot-on.

The importance of figuring out your season will depend on your style goals. Many people are able to figure out their best colors without professional help.

Yes, it is still a thing. You can search the forum topics here and find quite a few threads from forum members discussing their coloring.

As to whether it's crucial? That seems individual. Some people pay lots of attention to it, some not much. Personally, I have an OK grasp of what colors make me light up and what colors make me look dreadful. For me, that's good enough for now. I have plenty of other style challenges to figure out before I really need to drill down on colors.

I don't think its a crucial element of a fashion rehaul. If you don't have a clue what colors look good on you it could be a starting point. If you feel like you have colors sorted, I would start with a fresh hairstyle and a bra fitting.

Hi everyone,
As I continue my search for some fashion help, I have chatted with some stylists and image consultants in my area. I'm still trying to figure out what the differences between the two are.

The image consultants have brought up color analysis, figuring out your seasons, etc. I was wondering - is this still a thing? Or is that more of an 80s approach? My mom took me to get my colors done as a little girl. I remember the lady draping a bunch of fabrics next to my face, but I don't know how accurate it was. Do you all think this is a crucial component of a fashion rehaul? Thanks!
