In Italy this year these hats are all the rage. I need one too!
http://www.ovs.it/cappello-fal.....ori_2_2016

I'll probably buy one. Bit I don't know how practicality it will be for you...

I like Janet's suggestion. A plain beanie is nice too. I think Nordstroms has them in cashmere, which is warm but light weight.

My favorite style for winter is a slouchy beret. A little less casual than a beanie, but still easy to stuff in a bag if I need to take it off, and it doesn't give me hat-hair the way other hats do. I have a few of these now and love them. I've gotten them from Lord & Taylor, Banana Republic, and Nordstrom, but even Forever 21 was carrying them a while back (not sure about this year).

Have you looked at J. Crew? I own two hats from them, one with fur and ear flaps, the other a thin houndstooth cashmere beanie. They usually have a wide assortment of colors.

Anything with fake fur (think understated Dr. Zhivago) always reads city chic to me. As long as it's not a huge, honking, monster cosplay headgear! I like cynthiawalkersmith's suggestion of etsy.

I don't know how chic they are, but my faves this year are elongated beanies in a textured knit. I have found several at good ole Target.

In Istanbul I saw many women wearing berets. They looked so nice. They're warm and pack in your pocket or bag when you're inside.

I bought one this summer. I wore it when we went to our community theater last week.

Em, have you looked on etsy? So many great hats, both knit and crochet, that it's almost overwhelming. I love etsy because I can have a conversation with the person making the item, and I can filter by location to reduce my carbon footprint vis a vis shipping.

My personal etsy fave (right now) that's dominating my wish list is Strawberry Couture because they're so different, but they're probably not everybody's taste so YMMV

I need a new hat for winter/cold weather. All the ones I've seen have pom poms or worse...kitten ears. (WTF?) I am looking for something sophisticated and city chic. Can anyone recommend a style? Thanks.
