Alpaca is fascinating! In December I read The Book of Yarn (aimed at knitters) & learned about all kinds of fibers. Not to mention, alpacas as so frigging adorable. Gah. I *love* the textures on that sweater too.

The only one that looks a bit preppy to me is 2. And I think the pullover in 2 is fabulous & could easily swing east meets wild west, if it was over a collared shirt. Not that the linen isn't fabulous! But imagining that same outfit, with all the lovely accessories, but with a tee 'invisibly' layered underneath if you need it for warmth, I think it'd be EMWW for sure.

My style inclinations are MADE for cold weather. I can run around in wool skirts & sweaters & socks & knee high boots with a wool coat & hat/scarf/gloves over top and silk long johns under my tights in 8 or 9 degree weather & feel fine (maybe even colder than that, I don't know, 9 is the coldest I've experienced in the last couple of years). But come hot weather, especially endless south Texas hot weather, and I definitely sacrifice style to stay cooler. I'm not at all graceful about it either, just whiney.

(And I had the same thought as Gigi re: your post title!)

Caro, I love grey, but it doesn't seem to love me as much. You're right, muted tones don't work so well on me.

Dee, I hear you about the shoes. My cowboy boots have been getting a workout this month (closest thing I have to snow boots, most waterproof and best traction).

Joy, does alpaca pill like crazy in general? This one is pill city, but I'm pretty sure he's never depilled it and I've no idea how many times it's been worn.

Yay Shevia, another fan of the skull necklace!

Debora, do checkout the other side of the closet - men's clothing is made SO much better than women's!

Thanks Aubergine, I have a weakness for lapiz jewelry!

Ha Gigi, I'm STILL not ready for winter - I'm shocked at how I have so little appropriate winter clothing (hence the stealing from husband).

I had to laugh at the title of your post. I thought "prep" meant "preparation," and I thought, Wow, you're only NOW getting ready for winter? Ha ha.

Hey, it's February! We're halfway through winter! Woo hoo!

Note to self: check out hubby's sweater drawer. Thanks for the inspiration!

#2 is my favorite although I do find the skull pearls with peace sign sort of irresistible. Cold weather for me is 45F so I will just keep my mouth shut on that!

#2 is my favorite. The blue is especially lovely on you. As for sacrificing fashion for warmth, I need to do that with footwear. My feet get painfully cold, so I wear thick wool socks with short booties that are old and oversized..not at all cute.
Alpaca is amazing for it's warmth, isn't it? I was gifted with a wonderful alpaca cardigan a couple of years ago. It is a bit too big to be perfect, but it also can be layered over chunky sweaters for needed warmth.

Only #2 looks preppy to me. The others just look cozy, probably because of the roomier sweaters.

I've definitely sacrificed style when it comes to going outside. Today, to walk to work, I wore: puffer, ski pants, boots with additional ice grippers, giant scarf, bomber hat, and mittens. I looked (and felt) like that kid from A Christmas Story...

But the one nice thing about wearing that many layers outside is that I can wear my usual stuff inside, mostly. Although I'm wearing my Keen boots for running errands around town rather than any of my cuter, flat boots that aren't warm or grippy enough in the snow. I think shoes take the biggest hit, for me.

Apparently cold weather turns me into a prepster. Or maybe it's that I got bored of the pullovers I pilfered from the hubs and went back and pilfered several more.

1 - The least successful, prob 'cause hub's grey cotton pullover is just too big. Not even a jaunty red hair scarf and lace agate necklace could save the day.

2 - Well it's blue, so you know I like it better. This flecked blue wool pullover from the hubs seemed to want to be worn with blue linen and an old Afghani lapiz and silver necklace and prayer wheel earrings.

3 - This grey thing is alpaca wool. I have no idea where my husband got such a groovy thing; it's totally unlike him. Soooo warm! The earthyness of it felt very 70s, and you know I don't need much of a nudge to go 70s boho, so out came the "ivory" "skull" beads and silver peace sign (which is made of tiny little bones) necklace.

Not much east meets wild wild west in these, but I was warm and comfy and appropriate and so I'll take it.

Are you finding you have to sacrifice style to stay warm this cold cold winter?
