Well, I may be off track here, but I’d start my search with hopes for a suitably dressy pants look. My brief visit to the gorgeous (!) Oregon coast included chances to take in misty, windy and sometimes damp drama. I’d want to avoid spending the wedding holding any length dress in a breeze. Also, finding the preferred topper may be easier with pants. Seems like with fabric choice, the right silhouette and a coordinating or matching jacket or longer coat, you could be quite celebratory plus comfortable, at the ceremony and the reception. Our daughter got married at an ocean front venue on a peninsula. The beauty well outweighed the possibility of challenges. (I did have a bunch of clear umbrellas at the ready as they can make for great photos if need be.) I wish all of you a wonderful day and you a happy search for your outfit.

Suz, I like the shoe idea you suggested.
Joy, the outfit you described sounds lovely but probably not warm enough for the Oregon coast. Indeed some kind of jacket is going to be a requirement. Maybe we'll get lucky and it will be an unusually warm morning – but I'm doubtful!
I will check what shoes the bride is planning to wear and take some cues from that. What a great suggestion.
You all are so helpful!
Thanks.

To a similar wedding, I wore a long silk skirt in a sand colored pattern with a sand colored silk blouse. It was cold in May and sand and rocks kept getting in my sandals. Wear a jacket even if it is a puffer and be prepared to sit in the sand. Wear sun glasses to keep out sun, wind and sand. Good luck.

So here is a thought: what is the bride wearing on her feet? That might guide you a bit. I mean, in my mind, even by today's casualized standards, "semi-formal" doesn't really include sneakers. Or galoshes. Or, really, any footwear that you might normally wear or bring to a beach, LOL. But maybe I am wrong about that, in which case, things are easier.

So here is another option and maybe it would work: these Cole Haan Original Grand stitchlite wingtip oxfords. You can find them on sale in various places. They come (or came) in different colours. There is also the Zero Grand (not quite as comfortable, for me, although some people like it more) and a flatform version (also not quite as comfortable, but not bad. Maybe a bit clunky for your purposes.)

What I like about this shoe: it is incredibly lightweight. You could easily switch it out for the brunch and put it in a bag that you leave at the venue or in your car. It is washable in the washing machine so if it gets all dirty that day, no problem! It is closed toe/ heel so could keep you warmer -- but it is not hot/sticky/sweaty. It is quite refined looking on the foot, even with a dress it looks good (to my eye -- see photos below.) So if there were beach photos, not too big a deal.

Maybe you will need heattech undies beneath the pretty dress.

These people obviously run far warmer than many of us do. I mean, I am from Canada and even I am shivering at this thought....

I’ve been thinking about the shoes some more, if you wear tights you won’t be able to kick whatever shoes off on the sand if the shoes would sink in? So maybe a dressier sneaker would be easier to walk on the beach in than even a closed toe sandal? And take an alternative pair of shoes to change into at the brunch if the first pair are all sandy? I love the sort of faux fur jacket Ms Mary suggested!

Thanks again for all the great suggestions. Yes, I agree that they couldn't have made it much more challenging! I'm definitely thinking flat sandals or even cute sneakers. Depending on the forecast for the day, might include silk underwear where it won't show. The idea of nude-colored tights is also a great idea.

Honestly, it sounds FUH-REEZING!! I picked up a faux fur jacket in Paris a few years ago and it is perfect for this kind of thing. You can find many options on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076.....#038;psc=1

I also have a black velvet puffer jacket that I got last year at Talbots and wear constantly for dressy events when it's cold. That particular one is sold out but if you do a search for "velvet puffer jacket" you can find some other options at a variety of prices. This one comes in a beachy blue: https://www.qvc.com/qvc.produc....._mmc=GOOGL

I have attended three beach weddings but all have been in warmer weather. For one of them I did change shoes for the reception, the other two the shoes adapted.

My hat was threatening to blow away at the most recent (December 2023) wedding.

I think I would wear pointy toed boots under a long dress or skirt, and something between a wrap and a jacket (like the sweater wrap below). Just so it doesn't look like you're wearing a blazer, if you know what I mean.

As much as I would like to be invited to a wedding, I'm glad I don't have to figure this one out myself!

I am a native Oregonian with extended family on the coast. Over the years I have been to quite a few beach weddings although never one at 7 in the morning. I would wear a flat rain boot (Wellington type) and change shoes for the brunch. You should not wear any kind of heel because they sink into the sand. If the other attendees are local then they will likely be doing the same thing. The Oregon coast gets very misty although it doesn’t usually rain much in late June. If you own a light raincoat you might want to bring it. You are right that it might be windy so be thoughtful about hat choices. It shouldn’t be really cold in late June but it will be if your feet get wet so you want to make sure they aren’t exposed to the sand which. You could also consider a fancy sneaker.

Wow, this is a really tough one. Could they have made it any more challenging, LOL???!!!

I would definitely go for a jacket and for me, sandals would probably not work all that well in the likely temps....though I suppose you could keep your eye on the weather report to be sure. I might wear, instead, a version of the Naturalizer slingback, below -- it looks dressy but it is nearly flat, so you can walk on the beach or just kick it off if warm enough and people are walking on the sand. If they are erecting some kind of boardwalk or something you could also go with a heel.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I agree that a wrap might be difficult if it's windy. Something with a secure closure would be better. We are going straight from the beach to an indoor (thank the lord!) champagne brunch so I'll be in the same outfit for that as for the actual ceremony. Closed-toe sandals is also a great idea – and nude tights for warmth! Thanks, all!

I like Bijou’s suggestion of a jacket instead of a wrap, or maybe as backup to a light scarf. In fact, I’d be tempted to leverage any denim or utility jacket I already owned that fit the colour scheme. Just because I tend to find wraps a bit awkward! These outdoor weddings with colour schemes do present some difficulties, but you will find a good solution.

This is a tricky situation and if it is windy, my preference is to wear a jacket as wraps can be hard to manage if they are flapping in the wind. I attended a similar outdoor event, held in early spring. We were lucky that there was no rain, but it was cool, I was very thankful to have a jacket to keep warm. What I wore is in Finds. I was on my feet for most of the evening, comfy shoes were a must.

It is great that you are thinking about this now, as I am sure you will be able to put together a perfect outfit, sage is a beautiful colour. My outfit started with the dress and I was lucky to actually own the other pieces.

Your proposed sage green dress sounds great if you can find one!
Some kind of wrap type cardigan with something “extra”, maybe faux fur around the edge/collar or similar, might be warm enough but look special? My daughters wore something like that for a late autumn wedding as flower girls/bridesmaids for my sister when they were 13 and 10 and they looked fabulous and stayed warm. Other side of the world sorry so can’t make brand suggestions. If sandals, maybe closed toe ones so you wear nude-to-you tights if needed?

My son and fiancee are getting married on the beach at 7 am in late June on the Oregon coast. Attire is "semi-formal" with a beachy pallette (blues, sage greens, khaki). The bride's dress is white, straight, and long but very simple and sophisticated – not at all fussy, no lace, etc.

So I want to look good, of course, and not outshine the bride but mostly I don't want to FREEZE to death on the beach if it is (and most likely will be) a cool, windy, even drizzly day.

I'm thinking a long-sleeved shirtwaist midi-length dress in a subdued print or solid color, probably in the sage green realm as that looks good on me. Sandals? What kind of wrap will look polished but also be warm?

Thanks in advance for any ideas you all might have!
