Thanks Ladies! I have decided to go for it :)

I'll have to try on a black one and see what suits....I may end up with a colour instead. I realize now that I haven't bought a new winter coat in several years....so I'm due for a new one!

I'm excited and looking forward to shopping...should be fun!

I live in puffer territory. I don't think they ever go out of style. I love all three although I would never wear black myself.

I just consider a puffer gear. They are having a fashion moment right now, but when the trend moves to some other type of coat, I can't imagine people will stop wearing puffers -- they are too warm.

Lol at my age, I just want to have fun with my wardrobe, within the bounds of timeless style. If everyone else is wearing black, I'd want a cost in the same style but in a different color. Just call it fitting in and standing out at the same time. Any color other than black would do, but red would be fab.

oh, i love #1. the length, the fact that it has multiple ways to close, the hood. if i hadn't bought a new down coat already this year, i'd be interested in that one (i'm 50+ BTW)

I was recently thinking through fun vs. classic vs. intermediate coats.

I like #1 too--that parka style looks like it would have longevity. Really it's a try-on thing--style and fit-even once you narrow it down to some basic styles. I tried several on and was interested to see how differently they "read"--the baffles, the roominess of the sleeves, length, fit through chest vs hip--so I realized I wanted to look around more for one that really seemed to "fit" me.

Then you would decide what color--if black coats are your color, then go for that, as it is pretty classic. If you want a parka but are exploring "softer" colors or mood-lifting colors or somesuch, then you could take time to shop around for that.

Well I'm 40 and impulse-bought an olive green parka this year before realizing it was one of the ubiquitous trendy looks this season here I'm fine with it, the colour suits me and matches my other stuff well. The fur trim is practical. That said, I need a parka in my climate and they generally last me 2 years - I wear them daily for up to 4 months, and machine-wash them, so it's to be expected. So I don't worry about style longevity much. Get something that fits well and has some shaping, in a colour you like. FWIW my 70 year old mom wears great parkas.

Another vote from old me (53) - puffers and winter parkas are for any and all ages, shapes and sizes. I like the duffle styling of the first one as it's a little different from the usual plain zip-ups. I agree with Umlilla that the green parka reads a little young, but I do have a soft spot for an army green anything

I wear bright red in the winter. Yep, bright red. Sorry, can't handle yet more black in the darkest days.

My next coat will be teal or aqua. But, I have parka weather 4+ months a year, full down parka weather, so there is that.

I have a black parka (without the fur trim) that is my mainstay for the coldest days. The only bad thing about it is that I have had it for about 4 years, it wears like iron and keeps me very warm. So I have no real excuse to change it for another, even if I get bored with it.

I think that the army green ones with the faux fur trim look a bit teenage style.

Of course you can wear one at 47! You can wear one at 7 or 97, too, and where I live (also in Ontario) you pretty much need one from November until April.

I like non-black myself, but that is just because I get sick of seeing all the black ones. If you look good in black and like it, by all means go for it. My puffer is grey.

Puffer coats are not going to go out of style any time soon. They are too useful.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Walking through the malls recently in my ski jacket and feeling frumpy, everywhere I look I see all ages sporting black parkas. In your opinion, do you think these coats have staying power for the next couple of years? I also noticed that many of these coats were sported by all ages, but mostly young women and teenagers....do you think a woman of 47 could wear these? Or should I avoid it altogether?

Thanks.
