Really it's a try-on thing--style and fit-even once you narrow it down to some basic styles. I tried several on and was interested to see how differently they "read"--the baffles, the roominess of the sleeves, length, fit through chest vs hip--so I realized I wanted to look around more for one that really seemed to "fit" me.</p> <p>Then you would&nbsp; &nbsp;decide what color--if black coats are your color, then go for that, as it is pretty classic. The fur trim is practical. That said, I need a parka in my climate and they generally last me 2 years - I wear them daily for up to 4 months, and machine-wash them, so it's to be expected. So I don't worry about style longevity much. Get something that fits well and has some shaping, in a colour you like. The only bad thing about it is that I have had it for about 4 years, it wears like iron and keeps me very warm.
