If I was wearing a puffer that would mean it is too cold for leggings. But I have a poison eye for seasonal confusion.

If I'm wearing a puffer I am generally also wearing boots which give my legs some bulk in skinnies or leggings. I have a seasonal poison eye for puffers with sandals or pumps because that makes no sense to me.

There used to be rules about how long your coat was versus your dress/skirt and I suppose the same principles would apply. I personally don't like the look of a coat long enough to make it look like I don't have anything on underneath, so I would tend to go for a shorter coat over a skirt or dress, or a tunic. But if you need something long for warmth, I would just create visual weight with your shoes or boots and make sure your top half isn't too lollipop-ish.

I wear leggings with puffers regularly because being warm is definitely an important thing. Maybe your footwear could also play a role? I always feel that nice pair of boots balances things out in this type of outfit.

I guess it is hard to say absolutely without a picture, but I think it'd be fine. I certainly did a lot of leggings + tunic sweater+ puffer coat last Aussie winter (eg watching my daughter's netball games)

I would totally wear a puffy coat over leggings.

I'm new to leggings, but I have to say I love them with a cute tunic sweater. They're just so comfortable! And a significant step up for me from last year's bulky lounge pants and fleece sweatshirt that I lived in. Anyway, I was wondering if it matters what kind of coat I wear with the leggings. Sometimes if I wear an above-the-knee puffy coat, it makes my legs look so skinny in comparison (normally I'd love that, but I'm wondering if it looks out of proportion). Do I have to wear a more tailored/streamlined coat? Or doesn't it matter because it's winter and being warm is the most important thing anyways? I'm going for a casual look.

(This whole fashion thing is new to me, so I might be asking a lot of silly questions on here while I learn - hope that's ok!!)
