I wear little jackets under coats all Winter long. From little bikers and blazers to cropped styles and retro fits. I find it very comfortable. No ripping of linings at all. I posted about that here specifically:

http://youlookfab.com/2009/02/.....manhattan/

All my coats layer over ittle jackets actually. Just today I was with a 5ft client who needed a few coats to wear over suits (she’s an executive who wears 2 or 4P and has a strong shoulder line). You need a roomier fit for sure. Nothing longer than to the knee. She bought a trench and wool coat on sale at Nordies that fit perfectly over her suit – and it was a 4P.

Darn, I wish I could help, Shiny. I have the opposite problem--I am so sick of wearing my summer clothing! Many days, it is still too warm for cardigans if I'm walking around outside for any length of time.

It's getting cold out there!

I am despondent thinking about the long months ahead wearing the cardi+top+skinnies+boots formula, every day on end. I really like wearing blazers instead of cardis, because of the extra structure it provides. And also because I am just not keen on the "new" cardi shapes that are out there.

Got me thinking tonight (as I shivered) that I really need a winter coat that can fit easily over a blazer!!! Then I could get more use out of my blazers, and not get so bored wearing cardigans all winter long, day after day....

Any suggestions for this? Remembering that I am petite. Particular styles/cuts I should look for? Should I just size up? Hints and tips?

I do have one stylish, 3/4 length, Tahari black puffer that goes easily over any blazer (no matter how bulky). But, it's really not that warm, and it's black. My Jcrew coat will fit over thin blazers, but I worry about buttons on the sleeve (and in the case of my moto jacket, zippers) ripping out the lining.

Show me your winter coats that accommodate blazers underneath!
