I watched the first series and maybe some of the second and third. I liked Jessica's clothes the most, as her body type was the most similar to mine.

Thanks Jules, Style Fan and jmwolfe for your input.

The female characters on the show are fairly multi-faceted, and strong characters, but it does bug me a little how they are all slim and gorgeous with long hair, whereas the males are a little more varied looking. But that is often the way for these types of "glossy" shows and I do find it very escapist.

It will be interesting to see if Meghan Markle continues on the show now she is in a relationship with Prince Harry.

Ryce and Angie nailed it! As a lawyer and former litigator, albeit in the casual-leaning Northwest, I agree that "Suits" is not the norm. But I love it anyway! I do know some very accomplished and successful female attorneys who wear expensive and glamorous suits to court, but the look is more conservative, think St. John.

I have not watched the show but my niece and step son and his wife are all corporate lawyers in Toronto. I can not imagine that the women would dress like bombshells for work. I have seen some pictures of the show and it actually turned me off of watching it.

Interesting how the show's designer pretty much avoids the questions about appropriate workplace clothing in the article Vix posted. Totally fair though - I don't think this show is really looking to be "realistic", even by TV standards.
I was interested to learn that Julianna Margulies wore a wig in the Good Wife. They wanted the character to have a certain look and the very curly haired actor did not want to sit under the blow dryer at length every day. I do feel the straight, controlled hairstyle suits the character although playing into stereotypes.

Thanks all - especially Ryce and Angie who clarified that the women's fashion is work inappropriate - but stunning!!

Harvey is a great character....he has a bit of the "Don Draper" about him - a slightly tortured genius.

Lisa - the hair too, incredibly "blown out", I imagine in reality there would be a lot more simple ponytails and bobs.

Maneera - yes Donna and Diane do share a few characteristics. That gorgeous hair for starters. And I love Donna too - I would love a couple of her simple sheath dresses....

Vix - I will look up that link.

Suits is a fun show. Adore Harvey.

The women's fashion is fun to look at but very work IN-appropriate, and not at all realistic. No - US lawyers do not dress like that in real life. I have lots of lawyer clients and they don't wear haute couture bombshell clothing.

Ha! Well wouldn't it be great if we could all dress like that (or not!)
I love the clothes and I almost find the wealth of sartorial eye candy a bit distracting. Donna dresses bombshell. So does Jessica but is more tailored. Rachel is the most realistic--I think I could wear something like her pencil skirts and knit tops, but a less tight version. I also like her casual outfits.

I like Harvey. Always swaggering around, smirking. Mr Cool :-)
But my favourite person on the show has to be Louis! By far!

I LOVE Suits. I've watched 5 seasons (6th yet to come on Netflix India).

I love Harvey. He's my dream guy!!! Out of the women, I absolutely love Donna. She outshines all others!!! (PS: something about her reminds me of Diane G! I think it might be the hair!)

Jessica's wardrobe in earlier seasons was far better. I didn't love quite a few things she wore in season 5.

Hi Kiwigal and other fans --

I am many seasons behind but loved the outfits a lot and found a lot of good articles online when I looked last year. Probably more since!

The one below is a great -- illustrated! -- interview with the show's clothing designer, Jolie Andreatta. Interesting info about the craft (choosing what photographs well, tailoring/altering, picking for the mood of the episode, etc.

Ha! I usually feel so
out of my depth with questions on this forum – that’s why I’m here after all – to learn. But this is a question I cananswer with some authority.

Short answer – no! Somereasons are:

Comfort – a real-life workday likely involves spending 10-12
hours hunched over a computer, eating lunch at her desk, seeing only the handful of co-workers that office nearby – a nice pair of slacks and blouse or sweater and low to mid heel shoes are a lot more comfortable. And more forgiving of a few pounds gain or
lost. Ditto the other common combos – pencil skirt and cardigan, chemise dress, shirt dress, etc.

Real life – her commute may be a long city walk and/or a
commute on public transit. Can you imagine riding the subway in a Roland Mouret dress and Manolos? And then stopping off at the grocery store or to pick up a toddler from daycare?

$ - Corporate lawyers do make pretty good money – but not
wear-a-different-$2000-sheath-dress-every-day-of-the-week kind of money. I’m not sure who makes that kind of money – hedge fund managers, maybe? But they are all men….

Clients – Outside of big law and accounting firms, virtually
every business in America is business casual. Meaning when corporate lawyers meet with their clients, they tend to wear business casual, too.

Decorum/Being Taken Seriously – The bombshell look carries
risks few professional women welcome. A really fashionable female corporate lawyer would dress much more like the cast of The Good Wife than the cast of Suits.

Court – Conservative business suits are the rule for planned
court appearances. Might be Theory, or Boss, or Brooks Brothers, or Armani, but it will be conservative in cut, style and color. Blending in and having the emphasis on the argument and not the attire is the norm. The only real debate I ever hear about women’s courtroom attire is whether pants suits are acceptable. There are still a handful of older male judges who believe that a skirt suit is the only acceptable attire for court appearances, while many women – particularly younger ones – feel that pants are more appropriate and conservative. Attire for last-minute unplanned court appearances are a special category, consisting of the conservative jacket kept in the office just for this purpose worn over whatever the lawyer had on that day. Sometimes the results are pretty hilarious from a fashion standpoint.

Suits is a favourite of mine too (it's filmed in Toronto) but the women's clothes have always driven me nuts! Super formfitting and sexy - and all sleeveless. And all the hair is the same. I cannot imagine any law office here with women who look like and dress like that

We are a Netflix family and over recent months I have been watching Suits. It is my mindless escapist show, where everyone looks good and lives a very different life to me. I am on Season Three, with the trial for Ava Hessington about to get started.

The men all look terrific - especially Harvey of course who wears his suit very well indeed. But Louis, Mike etc all look sharp as well.

The women of course look wonderful as well - Jessica and Ava both wear some interesting tailored pieces- jackets in particular. I am quite drawn to Donna's wardrobe, as I think it would suit me the best.

I do wonder if the clothing is representative of what women wear in large US law firms - it seems less conservative than what I would have expected, but I could be off base here. There is a fair bit of cleavage and definitely very form fitting dresses and skirts - which are very flattering.

Does anyone else watch the show and have any comments about the fashion on it?
