Well done! You must feel cleansed and rejuvenated. There’s nothing quite as comforting as an effective and well organized closet to shop in every morning. (That, and a good cuppa tea with a big fat pastry).

That is the best feeling in the world, isn't it? I love organizing my closet! I just finished doing mine, and only need to have some few items altered. Yay for orderliness!

I'm chuckling over your sentimental cardi cause I get a funny picture in my head about how it must look. It is silly why we women hold on to things sometimes (yours was a VERY good reason though and I would probably do the same).

Congratulations! I know it's hard work cleaning out a closet. I bet everything looks so nice and organized now--I love that feeling. Looking forward to the outfits you'll put together with what is left!

Great job Shiny! You must be feeling wonderful now! Sweaters are always the most difficult thing for me to go through, maybe beacuse the cuts are mostly fairly classic. I should probably get rid of few more myself.

GOOD FOR YOU! Wow what a feeling. I also am in the process. At this point I still have piles of sweaters waiting for a new home.

Inspired by Angie's Friday blog, and the reality that I have been walking around storage boxes for weeks, I *finally* finished my closet rotation today. And then cleaned the entire house. There's nothing like a clean, organized house to de-stress me. Ahhhhh....

I culled quite a bit of things - enough to empty out two and a half sweater boxes! I didn't even try anything on. I went through it all rather quickly and knew exactly which to keep and which to toss.

Much of what I tossed had simply seen better days - including a black cashmere v-neck sweater I have loved and cherished for years and years, and despite worn out sleeves, I held on to it for silly sentimental reasons (such as the fact I was wearing it on my first date with my hubby). I would tell myself maybe I could add elbow patches someday. DH would tease me endlessly about this sweater, begging me to get rid of it since it was covered in pills and was see-through on the elbows. I finally let it go.

Other sweaters were just boring and uninspiring, for one reason or another, and a few never fit quite right.

I still have two (fairly small) sweater boxes of winter sweaters tucked away. These include:

1) Heavy sweaters for super cold days

2) Sweaters still in good condition, but not in a color that is in style at current moment, or I couldn't see working with current wardrobe

3) A few dressy, holiday special occasion type sweaters that may get tossed eventually (no reindeers or anything like that - for example, black sweater with a fur color).

All of the above are still readily accessible under my bed, in dust-proof, moth-proof containers.

All my spring/summer cardis are put away now.

And I did a major pass on my stocking drawer. You would be amazed at how many nude stockings and hose I have. Out they all went, without a thought. I am down to a very small set of stockings - black, gray, purple.

I also did another pass at my shoe collection and culled several shoes that I am never going to wear again and since YLF have no idea WHAT I was thinking when I bought them!

My fall/winter closet is now quite simple and fairly small - smaller than usual, that is. Usually the sweater area is overflowing. It's nice and tidy now. I still have about 10 free hangers and could have more if I do another pass (I reserved a few tops that probably should be put away, but we may still have the occasional warm day).

This gives me room to add a few key pieces, but I'm okay even if I don't - small really can be better.

On my wish list now, in no particular order:

1) A few more silky blouses, preferably long-sleeved
2) More long-sleeve knits
3) Perhaps one more solid, V-neck cardi (may duplicate the royal BR merino)
4) Cream wool or flannel, lined dress slacks
5) Grey flannel, lined dress slacks (light grey)
6) Black velvet slacks (for holidays)
7) Scarves
8) Possibly pumps (if I catch a good sale)
9) Still need to upgrade my winter coat
10) duplicate my skinnies - but I think this is not in the cards
