Why are you embarrassed about not knowing a certain brand? I'm not, LOL! I am pretty much clueless about brands, although happy to learn, but it did not make me an inferior person because I didn't know them before.

Leather does stretch, so keep that in mind with those boots. Big caveat: it will not stretch along stitching. I had some black ballet flats with nice diagonal details stitched in, and those lines of stitching eventually became real sore spots. Literally. I have been very careful about that ever since. I will tolerate a little foot discomfort in glitzy shoes that I don't have to do any walking in and that I will wear infrequently (even then, not much), but anything I have to live in had better feel wonderful. But some of my best shoes required a little stretching, either on the machine at the store, or on my feet. The latter is best accomplished wearing around the house, when they can be taken off as soon as they get uncomfortable. After a few days of that, they're usually good for the real world.

Angie and Suz, I am definitely going to get some fab items from London. They are going to be gifts from my family though ;))
Angie, if docs need to be worn in, I think I am going to keep them on all day today and see how it goes.

Suz, is this seamstress on Princess street by the food basics? that is where I go. I have been to London before but you know what, I never even knew about the doc martens brand before YLF. soooooo embarrassing!!!! With your help, i am sure i will get some great items from there.

Great thoughts, Mona - but I am really sorry about the Docs!! I do hope you can get a pair that fits better. They seemed to work so well for you.

I know a seamstress in town who does alterations very reasonably. I can take you there if you like or show you the place. I don't know what she charges to taper trousers but hemming and sleeves and tapering dresses has been very reasonable for me.

I second Angie's thought to allow yourself a bit of shopping pleasure in London. If you see a perfect item, do get it, because it will remind you of your trip and will be an ongoing inspiration to you. In my recent trips to New York city with my husband (he was going for work and I went along) I was fortunate enough to benefit from some sales. First of all, the prices were FAR less than I would ever pay in Canada, so I felt safer to experiment. Yes, I made a few mistakes, but they were all very inexpensive mistakes and I also learned a lot from them. Meanwhile, I got a few pieces that have become real wardrobe staples for me and each time I wear them I think of my trip as well as my fashion aspirations!

I like the plan! I do have a few questions and suggestions:

1. You did a Pre-Edit. Good job! Now soak up the great style in London and come back inspired.

2. Great idea.

3. Tapering your bootcut trousers to straight legs or skinnies will make them the perfect length for any heel height. That might be a good temporary solution.

4. I think you should keep your eyes out in London for a few good pieces at discounted prices. Try TK Maxx on the High Street. I know you said no Fall shopping, but you have thought about your wardrobe already and you REALLY need jackets and boots. London is shopping Mecca.

5. Docs need to be worn in and that might be the problem. It takes time though :(

You are well on your way, Mona! See. You got through it. Well done.

A couple of days ago, i did a post about how frustrated i was with my closet and how overwhelming it is to think about reviewing it. http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....view-rants
With the help of Angie's enlightening posts and suggestions from some fab YLF'ers (especially Suz, Gaylene, JR and Ingunn) I have decided the following

1) Angie talks about having a momentum and not do it in several sessions http://youlookfab.com/2012/08/.....g-process/ so I will wait until October to actually start the edit/review after i return from England.

2) 80% of pieces that are pre-YLF and I think are ill fitting or frumpy are going to go to a "holding zone" (my son's closet). The rest 20% will be used to create a capsule. This will help me try different combinations with fewer items and may be get my creative juices flowing

3) I will be patient and picky and will use some temporary keep options. Like, dress pants that are too short to wear with heels. I will wear with flats for now. Although, I am not a flats gal but for now, this has to work.

4) This means no new fall purchases for me. Following the above plan, will bring me to February/March. By that time, i will be more aware of wardrobe holes and can purchase to fill these holes for my winter wardrobe.

On another note, doc marcies that I was so excited to have and was going to wear on the flight to London, sadly are going to be returned. I put them on this morning at home to try and my feet started hurting on top of the ankle area which tells me that they are probably too narrow for my feet. So I am going to return them and see if I can buy another pair from London.
